You will mainly teach our extra-curricular English program. We are currently using the GrapeSEED curriculum. You will do OJT, but also get virtual training through the GrapeSeed platform. You will teach students between four and 12 years old. As an extra-curricular English program teacher, you will be responsible for at least one elementary school year grade. You will also teach kindergarten students, but not be responsible for the entire grade.
Angel Kindergarten is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School implementing the Primary Years Programme. You are not required to have a teacher's license from your home country or Japan, but candidates which hold licenses will be prioritized. You are not required to have IB experience, but it is preferable. You will be required to attend workshops, and learn about the IB framework. For more information about the IB and its mission and philosophy, please visit the IB homepage.
Although your main focus will be the extra-curricular program, you will also be required to work within the IB framework and teach English during daycare hours. There are about 30 teachers at our school, Japanese and foreign. You will collaborate with the other teachers to support the students in their journey towards becoming international minded. It is preferable if you have conversational level Japanese, but it is not a requirement as we have bilingual staff to support. You will plan and deliver lessons to students that are between three and five years old during kindergarten hours.
Other duties also include supporting kindergarten and English events (some of which are on Saturdays), cleaning outside and inside the kindergarten, supporting younger students when they go to the toilet, preparing for lessons for your extra-curricular and kindergarten IB lessons, and attending meetings with other teachers. Attending summer camp (stay over with elementary school students).
Employees are required to join the pension and health care insurance system through our kindergarten.
