Description

Starting September 2018, or possibly earlier, Kobe Bilingual School (KOBILS) is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic international school teacher in Tarumi, Kobe. Two different teaching patterns are possible. When applying, please indicate which pattern you are most interested in.


1) Tuesday - Saturday: International kindergarten and elementary Saturday School. Kindergarten (Tuesday - Friday): mixed age homeroom, ages 3-6, with age/level-based small learning groups; Saturday School: Grade level class of fluent-native English speakers/readers aged 6-12.

The position will initially be as a classroom teacher in our international kindergarten and elementary Saturday School, but teachers with experience and potential to move to a Kindergarten head teacher position are especially welcomed.

2) Monday- Friday: Homeroom teacher; single grade level. Elementary school teachers teach across the curriculum (we have specialists in Music, Technology and PE but teachers may be involved in these lessons). The successful applicant will be a qualified teacher with experience teaching in their own country or at an international school here in Japan.

At the higher end of the salary scale, the applicant will be a qualified teacher with experience teaching at an international school or kindergarten here in Japan or in their own country, and be capable of taking on projects that will benefit the entire school. While a teaching license from a home country is essential for elementary school and preferred for Kindergarten, experience, enthusiasm, initiative, and the ability to work unsupervised within a team are key requirements. All teachers are involved in teaching writing so applicants must be able to write accurately and concisely with good organization. All applicants will have at least two years experience teaching young children who are fluent speakers or developing fluency in English, and an interest in professional development.

Teachers with experience of Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence would be especially welcome, as would teachers who have aided in the accreditation process at a previous school. We are a small school with typically 10-12 children in each grade/year level. Kindergarten teachers team-teach with a Japanese nursery teacher. KOBILS is growing each year so there are plenty of projects to lead and opportunities to specialize for enthusiastic teachers who are looking to make a real contribution. Strong computer/technology skills are valued.


KOBILS is an active school and teachers are expected to take an active role in PE, hiking, swimming and other activities with the children.

At least twenty (first year) to twenty-five paid holidays to be taken outside core term-time plus most public holidays. Furnished company apartments near a mainline station available at a competitive rent for single teachers or near the school for teachers with families; tuition subsidies up to 100% for children ages 2-12. Shakai hoken health insurance/pension provided. Minimum two year commitment.

Applicants within Japan will need a visa enabling them to work (working holiday is fine too) and sponsorship is offered on expiration. Applicants outside Japan need not have a visa, but should usually have a teaching license.
