Thank you for your interest in RCS.
Our goal by dispatching ALTs is to raise the quality of public English education in Japan and promote team teaching in the classroom. To achieve our goal, we are looking for aspiring educators who share our ideas to work with.
In order to promote team teaching, an ALT must continually strive to better ones methods through in class experience and trainings that we hold. This being said, team teaching cannot be improved by only the work of the ALT. Because of this, the ALT can act as a consultant, giving advice as well as showing by example in order for the Japanese teacher to become an even better team teacher.
For those who just want to do exactly as the teacher says, or those who want to teach a class following a general lesson plan exactly because it’s easier, RCS is probably not for you. However, for those who actively want to try to improve English education, and wish to contribute to the growth of children I can say confidently you will like RCS better than any other English education company out there.
Together let’s make English education even better in Japan for the sake of the children’s future.

As Japan is globalizing, Japanese children are having more and more chances to encounter foreign languages, and interact with foreign people.
Many parents send their children to English conversation schools in order to raise a bilingual child. Many people believe English education is important from a very young age.
From the globalization of this country, the amount of children who attend English conversation schools after school is increasing, but there are still many children who learn a foreign language for the first time after they enter elementary school.
To those children, the ALT has a special place as the first foreign person or the first person with a different culture and language that they have met. Because of this special place the ALT holds, you have a lot of influence on the children.
We want the children to look back on their 9 years of mandatory education and be happy that they were able to have their ALT as a teacher.
Let’s be there to support the children as they grow, and teach in a way that when the year is finished the children will come to you and say “Thank you, I wish you could be my teacher next year too.”
The ALT coordinator and manager as a team will work hard to support you and your career as a member of the RCS family.

About the areas our ALTs work in:
RCS has variety of ALT contracts with the Board of Educations mainly in Southern Kanto (Tokyo metropolitan area) , especially in Saitama and Tokyo as well as Northern Kanto such as Gunma.
Most of the schools that our ALTs work are either elementary schools or junior high schools, however there are some options to work in kindergartens and senior high schools too.
Depending on the cities, you may work at one school or it may be the combination of some schools. A big benefit for working at only one school is that you can build a great relationship with the students and the teachers as a member of the school you work in. On the other side, the big benefit for working at multiple schools is that you can contribute to greater number of the students as a member of the society.
Most of our positions are full time (5 days a week, from 8:30 - 16:30) positions, however we have some potions of part-time (less working days and/or shorter hours) positions too.
If you are to work in urban areas, usually you are required to commute using public transportations, however if you are to work in suburban or rural areas you may need to commute by car. So if you are willing to work in suburban or rural areas, Japanese/international drivers license may be required.
In general, more experience and skills as an ALT are required in urban areas compared to suburban or rural areas. Thus those who are new to Japan or new as an ALT may be advised to start your career in suburban or rural areas and then step up to urban areas.
*When first hired, it will be a fixed term employment as decided on by the school, however if all evaluation criterion are met, there are also indefinite employment opportunities.
*The company can represent you when renewing or getting your working visa. (Conditions apply)
*Depending on experience, skill, and place of work the initial salary may differ.
*Every semester, there is classroom observation and survey sent to all schools which will be the basis of your evaluation. Based on the evaluation pay raises can occur. (Unlike many other ALT companies, those who try hard and those who do not will not be paid the same amount. Those who put in effort with have a higher salary.)
*Depending on the work place and working conditions you may be put into social insurance (shakai hoken).
*Company housing is available.
*Depending on the location company cars will be available for rent.
*For those hired there is paid initial training, so even those who have little or no experience can be reassured.
*All necessary teaching material will be available online.
Previous ALT experience (especially at the elementary level), would be desired, but is not necessary. Those with a mid-level to high-level command of the Japanese language would also be looked upon favorably, as well those with teaching qualifications or other teaching experience. Driving ability also is preferable, but not required.
