Description

ABOUT US
EFL Club has been teaching English to children of Sapporo for 22 years. For many of these students, our lessons are the only real exposure they have to English, so we are dedicated to providing them with a quality education.

We strive to create a welcoming and safe place for our students, and an inclusive and supportive work environment for our staff. Many of our students stay at the school for 10 years or longer, and a significant number of them go on to achieve a functional level of English ability. The teaching staff consists of a variety of nationalities and backgrounds, and includes both long- and short-term staff, the former typically staying with us for 5 years or longer.

We currently have one position open for a teacher of young children and elementary school students. The successful candidate will be trained in how to run classes for the different age groups. Thus, while relative experience and qualifications are preferred, inexperienced teachers are also welcome to apply.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates for consideration must meet the following criteria:

1) Be a native speaker of English. All candidates, regardless of nationality or race, must provide background information to support their native English speaker status.

2) Possess strong communicative and teamwork skills. The teaching and student liaison departments work closely to ensure successful outcomes for the students, and all staff are expected to engage proactively in this process.

3) Speak clearly and demonstrate a good command of grammar, spelling and punctuation.

4) Be able to sing in tune, or be willing to learn how to with support from colleagues.

5) Be able to begin work on April 10th, 2018. If you are applying from outside Sapporo, please note that you would need to relocate within 5 weeks.

6) Be willing and able to commit to a 2-year period of employment.

7) Possess an appropriate visa allowing full-time work, or hold a Bachelor’s degree in any field in order to meet the Immigration Department’s criteria for work visa sponsorship.

8) Be physically and mentally healthy.

PLEASE NOTE: Only candidates who meet these criteria will be considered. Failure to address these criteria in your cover letter may mean that you do not receive a response to your application.

JOB DESCRIPTION
We currently have around 650 students taking over 900 lessons, and are thus able to offer the right candidate a stable work environment, with opportunity for professional growth. Our teaching department consists of 8 full-time teachers under the direction of our Senior Teacher who will ensure that the successful candidate will be given the appropriate amount of training and assistance to reach their full potential.

Teachers are responsible for planning and running their classes and for providing feedback on student progress and curriculum. A maximum of 26 class hours is maintained to ensure that teachers have sufficient time to achieve these goals.

We offer a competitive salary with benefits, a warm and supportive workplace environment, and potential for long-term employment for those who wish to settle in Sapporo. We provide language assistance and support for new staff, especially those who are new to Japan.

ABOUT SAPPORO
Sapporo is a delightful place to live in. With a population of around 2 million, it is the 5th largest city in Japan and thus big enough to offer great food, culture, sport and entertainment, while avoiding the sprawling nature of other major cities. The cost of living in Sapporo is lower than other metropolitan areas, making it one of the most liveable major cities in Japan.

Sapporo and its beautiful surrounds has a large number of ski resorts for winter sport lovers, and hiking trails, lakes, cycling tracks and parks perfect for summer activities. Summer in Sapporo is glorious - hot, but not humid or rainy like the mainland - and Sapporians delight in the countless outdoor festivals held in the city centre for many months throughout the year.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Candidates who address all 8 criteria in their cover letter will be responded to. If you have not received a response within 3 days, feel free to reapply with an updated cover letter.

Applications close as soon as a candidate has been selected.
