<ABOUT THE ROLE>
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Trade Manager to join the Victorian Government Business Office (VGBO) in Tokyo, driving opportunities and developing strategies that initiate export activities between Victoria, Australia, and Japan.

Reporting to the Commissioner for Victoria in Japan, this senior position will be responsible for managing the Victorian Government Access Japan market entry program. The establishment of effective business networks is key to supporting the market entry activities of Victorian companies utilising the VGBO, and Victorian companies are provided with assistance in planning and executing their market development activities into the Japan market.

This role requires an extensive background in export management and development, with experience and a record of achievement in trade or investment facilitation into Japan, together with a detailed understanding of the business and government environments in Japan, with a sound knowledge of Australian trade and economic ties with Japan.

This role works collaboratively with colleagues based at Head Office in Melbourne, as well as across other international offices.

<SUCESSFUL CANDIDATE>
The successful candidate for this locally engaged position will be responsible for all arrangements in relation to relocation expenses (if applicable), their accommodation, day-to-day living expenses, taxation and medical insurance.

The Victorian Government does not deduct taxation from salaries each month. Staff are expected to submit their own tax returns each year. Medical insurance is also a private responsibility.

<EMPLOYMENT ELEGIBILTY>
· English: Fluent, Japanese: Fluent
· Applicants must be a Japanese citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa. (work authorisation proof will be requested)
· A relevant tertiary qualification in Commerce or Business from a recognised institution would be highly desirable.
· Experience in a regional business development role, particularly in Japan.
· Excellent understanding of the Victorian and Australian environment, in particular experience working in Australia or with Australian-based organisations.
· To work reasonable additional hours, including evenings, weekends and occasional overnight travel, to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the position are adequately performed.
· A requirement to travel within Japan and on occasion, internationally.
· To display high levels of integrity, governance and accountability.
· The successful applicant will be subject to a background check through the relevant law enforcement authorities.

COVER LETTER MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA
1. Economic Analysis:
• Demonstrated experience in export management and development, with extensive experience and a proven track record of trade facilitation into Japan.
• Comprehensive understanding of both Australian and Japanese business and government environments including key industry, economic and socio-political drivers.
• Sound knowledge of Australian trade and economic ties with Japan and proven knowledge of Victoria’s international business competitive advantages.

2. Client Orientation:
• Understanding of international business protocols and experience managing relationships within complex, multicultural organisations, governments and corporations.
• Superior interpersonal, presentation and communication skills (fluency in English and Japanese), including the ability to successfully conduct commercial/financial negotiations when representing the interests of the Government of Victoria, Australia.

3. Achieving Outcomes:
• Outstanding record of achievement in trade facilitation between Australia and Japan across a variety of sectors.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute trade strategies, with an appreciation of the Victorian Government’s economic strategies and policies relating to Japan.

4. Research and Analysis:
• Extensive research and analytical experience, with sound conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to conduct research, identify issues and develop appropriate solutions.
• High level conceptual and problem solving skills with extensive networking knowledge gained through experience in dealing across a variety of sectors.
