Description

Starting April 2020 (earlier start possible), Kobe Bilingual School (KOBILS) is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic teacher for 1) an international kindergarten and Saturday School position (T-S) 2) an international elementary school homeroom teacher position (M-F) or 3) an afternoon/evening plus Saturday school position (T-S) in Tarumi, Kobe.

Please include a cover letter explaining which teaching pattern you are applying for and why you are interested in teaching with KOBILS. Overseas candidates are welcome to apply, but should have a teaching certificate with qualified teacher status from their own countries and need to apply early!

The successful applicant will have experience teaching young or primary age children, strong writing skills, be interested in professional development, and be enthusiastic about working with children, age 2-12, who are developing bilingualism. At the top end of the salary scale, the applicant will be a qualified teacher with at least 2 years experience teaching at an international school abroad, or a primary school in their own country, be interested in the homeroom position, and be capable of taking on projects that will benefit the entire school. While a teaching license from a home country is necessary for an elementary school position and early learning qualifications preferred for the kindergarten position, experience, enthusiasm, and the ability to work unsupervised within a team are key requirements. We are a small, dedicated and somewhat flexible team working in a unique and rewarding environment where children have fun learning and the emphasis is on individual progress rather than passing exams or performing at baseline.

Strong computer/technology skills are valued as is experience with curriculum development. Specific interest in drama, music or sports would be well received. Teachers familiar with Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence would be especially welcomed, as would teachers who have aided in the accreditation process at a previous school. We are a small school with typically 10-12 children in each grade/year level. We are growing each year so there are plenty of projects for enthusiastic teachers who are looking to make a real contribution to our expanding school.

Three teaching patterns are available as it is possible for us to reshuffle our team:
1) Kindergarten: mixed age class, 3-6 with level based learning groups, Tuesday-Friday plus Saturday School, aged 6-12.
2) Elementary School: Grade one, grade three or grade four class.
3) Afterschool/Saturday: Working with fluent English speakers, readers and writers, aged 6-12 on Saturday and 12+ on weekdays.

Twenty-five paid holidays a year plus most public holidays. Furnished company apartments at a competitive rent available for teachers electing to live near the school; tuition discounts up to 100% for children aged 2-10 (full-time) and up to 18 (part-time). Shakai hoken health insurance/pension provided. Partial-full payment available for training courses to upgrade qualifications including a possible PGCEi for non-qualified teachers after one year. Minimum two year commitment. Please include a personalized cover letter explaining your interest in the position and school if you would like your application to be seriously considered.

Apologies in advance for not replying to all applicants.
