Description

Do you enjoy nature, history and scenic views? Have you been seeking an escape from the stress and high prices of living in a crowded urban area? Are you interested in teaching in one of the most beautiful cities in all of Japan? Then we have the ultimate opportunity for you!

Borderlink is currently seeking an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) for an Elementary/Junior High-mix position in the iconic city of Hikone, Shiga prefecture. This position starts immediately and we encourage all those interested to apply now to secure work in this prestigious location!

>>Position Details & Benefits

As an ALT, you would be responsible for co-teaching with Japanese teachers, making activities and materials, and helping to facilitate English language instruction. You will also make the language "real" by interacting with students throughout the day to help them actively apply what they learn in class. The ideal candidate is flexible with their teaching style and wants to make a positive impact on the lives of the students. Having prior teaching experience is desired but not required, as we will provide training prior to your starting date.

This position will have you working at 2 Junior High Schools (4 days a week) and 1 Elementary School (1 day a week). All schools are accessible on foot from a station (about a 15-30 minute walk) but candidates with a Japanese or International Driver's Licence are welcome and encouraged to apply. License holders who do not own a vehicle but are still interested in driving can also lease a company car from us.

We can support you with finding an apartment in the area and compensate you for part of your moving fees upon submission of the receipt. We are also able to provide you with a visa sponsorship where applicable. This position comes with enrollment in social insurance (health insurance and pension), making it excellent for those looking at staying in Japan long-term.

The successful candidate will also be provided a yearly calendar to help manage their other commitments. Finally, depending on the candidate's performance and evaluation throughout the year, there is a possibility of receiving a pay increase upon renewing following the completion of the contract.

>>About Hikone

Hikone is a cozy city full of culture and history situated on the edge of Lake Biwa, Japan's largest freshwater lake. It is home to the famous Hikone castle, one of the very few Japanese castles designated as national treasures. There's plenty to explore around the city, while nearby sites of interest in the surrounding area include Mt. Ibuki and ancient battlefield of Sekigahara. Those with an interest in Japanese history will love working in Hikone!

Furthermore, travelers keen to see other parts of Japan will find it a convenient home base, as there is smooth, ready access to nearby cities such as Nagahama and Maibara. A weekend trip to Osaka/Kyoto to the west or Nagoya to the east is a realistic (and affordable) reality for those living in Hikone. If you enjoy photography, exploration and living in a city that blends modern urbanity and traditional charm, this is the dream location you've been looking for.
