Description

Morrison & Foerster LLP, an Am Law 50 law firm with 16 offices worldwide, has an opening for Word Processors (English/Japanese Editing) in our Tokyo office.

Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, performs complex word and document processing activities. Keyboards or scans and revises a variety of documents; sends and receives faxes; proofreading of revisions, photocopies, assembles and distributes prepared material as necessary.
Responsible for ensuring that client satisfaction is achieved throughout all position responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

1. From handwritten notes, scanned drafts, digital recordings, typed drafts, USB and faxes containing draft material, produces documents received from attorneys, legal assistants, secretaries and members of the administrative staff.
2. Creates new documents and revises drafts; makes recommendations to authors about best formatting to accomplish desired result; makes decisions about appropriate technology to use when creating new documents.
3. Provides feedback to authors on status of document; returns completed document to authors after all work requested by them has been accomplished (printing, proofreading, making proofreader's corrections, copying, faxing, messengering, etc.).
4. Maintains record of elapsed time and pages for billing and statistical purposes.
5. Completes electronic time cards in a timely manner.
6. Refers special problems, priority requests and conflicts regarding requested tasks to appropriate practice support manager/supervisor.
7. Coordinate global workflow as requested. Provide accurate turnover report at end of shift when coordinating. Must be able to work with a global team.

Qualifications:
Native Japanese with business level English preferred. Business English means they must be comfortable to work in an English based work environment and on complex documents in English. Legal Word Processors are based in Tokyo and US offices, and they work together. They receive work requests from global offices. 80% of the documents they handle is in English. Applicant must be able to understand details of requests from attorneys in English. Japanese or non-Japanese is acceptable, but for Japanese, we expect returnee or someone who has studied abroad in an English speaking country for more than one year.

Set work hours:
3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Monday-Friday (including one hour lunch break)
Applicants must be flexible with occasionally switching with other shifts as needed. Examples of other shifts are (1), (2), and (3) below.

(1) 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, and 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday
(2) 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday-Friday
(3) 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday-Friday
Additionally, holiday coverage is also required on a rotation basis.
