Description

The Eiken Foundation of Japan is recruiting Test Raters to evaluate pre-recorded responses from a test of spoken English.

■ Working conditions:
1. 3-5 day rating sessions are held three to four times annually in central Tokyo.
2. The next session is November 23-27, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
3. Raters will submit their availability for each session and be assigned work based on the need.

■ Compensation:
800 yen per test (approx. 10 minutes each); raters will evaluate approximately 5 tests per hour

■ Training and certification:
1. Short-listed candidates will be asked to complete a self-access training and certification program, to be conducted at the candidate’s home at his/her convenience. The program takes approximately 3.5 hours to complete and is unpaid. Candidates who successfully complete the program will become certified as raters.
2. Candidates will be required to sign and return a nondisclosure agreement prior to receiving training materials.

■ Qualifications/requirements:
1. Native English speaker, or proof of English proficiency of at least CEFR C1 (EIKEN Grade 1; IELTS 7.0).
2. Bachelor’s degree or higher; TESOL certification preferred.
3. Experience teaching English at a Japanese high school, college, or university; or equivalent qualifications and experience.
4. Strong desire to contribute to English language education in Japan.
5. Age 60 or below.

■ Application materials:

3. Recent photograph
The résumé/CV should include your visa status. In the cover letter, explain why you are a suitable candidate, highlighting your professional experience.

■ Please note:
1. Dates/times are subject to change.
2. Completion of the training and certification program does not guarantee that work will be assigned. Raters with weekday availability are more likely to be assigned work.
3. The number of raters hired for each session, and the number of available working hours, will change according to the number of test takers.
4. Raters will be required to exhibit professional behavior and meet ongoing quality-control standards in order to remain certified as raters.

■ Application deadline: October 1, 2016
