描述

Description: Kansai International Academy is currently seeking experienced teachers for the 2018-2019 academic year for one of our 8 Kansai campuses and Tokyo campuses: Higashi Osaka, Ashiya, Hirakata, Akashi, Kyoto, Himeji, Tennoji, Kobe, Bunkyo, Chiyoda and Azabu. We offer bilingual education to children living in Japan. This position is competitive in terms of salary, benefits and conditions. Successful candidates should be flexible, enthusiastic and love the challenge of working with children.

Kansai International Academy (Kobe) has an elementary school and is an IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme. It is the only school in the world offering the PYP in Japanese. We also have a secondary school in Kobe which is a candidate school for the IB Diploma Programme.

We are not an English conversation school. We teach IN English rather than teach English so applicants must be aware of the challenges associated with holistic education as opposed to language instruction and be proactive about their own professional development. We welcome well-qualified, highly motivated and committed teachers to apply for a rewarding career opportunity.

Kansai International Academy is currently looking to employ an educator for the role of a full-time ESL teacher across a number of grades. The ESL teacher will work specifically with students requiring additional and remedial English instruction and support. ESL classes are run by the ESL teacher alone. The ESL teacher will also be expected to address the students’ specific language needs, in concert with the homeroom teacher. Additionally, the ESL teacher will attend one Unit of Inquiry class for each grade class per week in order to provide language support to students.

We invite candidates who are serious about improving students’ English ability and enabling their participation in all areas of school life as well as promoting full access to the KIA curriculum. Preference will be given to those professionals who have teaching and collaborative planning experience, have worked on curriculum development and have an awareness and desire to work within the inquiry-based International Baccalaureate (IB) education framework, and who have a clear understanding of and proven ability to address the needs of Japanese learners of English. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be highly personable and adaptable, have strong problem-solving skills with a clear record of educational success in the classroom.

The ESL teacher’s role entails the following responsibilities:

-Participate actively in grade-level planning meetings and plan collaboratively with homeroom teachers (including developing learning objectives and formative and summative assessments).
-Differentiate ELA lesson content (that is, provide content that can support both those with learning difficulties and those who are high-achievers).
-Record student performance and grades, including in-class anecdotal evidence on students’ language use.
-Make recommendations for further language support to homeroom teachers and the ESL Coordinator.
-Ensure a positive learning atmosphere and an inquiry-based approach to lessons as much as possible.
-Create a classroom that is a safe space to experiment with language for all students while expressing their identities and ideas.
-Ensure students have sufficient opportunities to apply and to reflect upon their language learning.
-Utilize scaffolding techniques and differentiate class content and homework to support students requiring additional language support.
-Provide opportunities for students to extend and apply their learning beyond the classroom, both in the wider school environment and at home.
-Promote general English use and interest in learning language in school.
Proofread school documents and publications when needed.

Teaching certification and/or a degree in English or Education (or a related field) at minimum.
Experience working with young children.

We have established a successful curriculum and a strong support network for our teachers. Teachers with a BA or BSc in Education will receive a monthly qualification allowance.

Travel expenses are paid up to a maximum of 25,000 yen per month and health insurance is provided in addition to the salary.

Due to the large number of applications we get, we will only contact applicants deemed suitable for an interview. Make sure your cover letter is addressed specifically to Kansai International Academy and includes why you would like to work at our school and how you think your skills and experience could add to our academic environment. This is not an entry-level job and positions are extremely competitive. Having numerous years of ESL teaching experience or being multicultural will not be enough to warrant an interview. Please give some specific references to our educational environment, philosophies and approaches based on the information from our website, and let us know how you would fit into our team.
