Our award-winning Montessori kindergarten is looking for enthusiastic candidates to join our staff of hard-working English teachers in helping kindergarten, elementary and junior high age students become proficient in English.
Fuji Youchien is seeking professional and energetic language teachers who are looking to stay in Japan on a long term basis while educating over 600 students (and growing) at our school in Tachikawa.
Our school utilizes the GrapeSEED curriculum in combination with various events throughout the year to facilitate the learning of children aged 4 and up. Students attend multiple 40 to 60 minute classes a week learning from songs and stories in an immersive English environment. Our goal is for them to attain fluency over a number of years in a similar way to how they learn their first language, with our students showing excellent results. Teachers work closely with the children in and outside of class time to provide English education and conversation in a wide variety of contexts.
★ Native English speakers only (North American English preferred).
☆ Valid working visa and/or Bachelor's Degree and currently residing in Japan.
★ Experience with language education and children preferred but not necessary.
☆ Career-minded with strong understanding of Japanese culture and expectations.
★ Punctual, reliable, creative and energetic.
☆ Excellent time management skills.
☆ We need a teacher for immediate start, but candidates can also be considered for beginning in the new school year, April 2019.
★ Schedules vary. 40 hour week Mon-Fri with various Saturdays.
☆ Several weekend events throughout the year. Some events involve staying overnight.
★ Full training in the GrapeSEED curriculum with ongoing support.
☆ ￥100,000 re-signing bonus (after completing a full school year starting in April) increasing by ￥100,000 each time you re-contract up to ￥500,000.
★ ￥200,000 mid-year travel bonus paid in July.
☆ Travel fees are reimbursed.
★ 4 weeks paid vacation per year (set dates during school holidays in summer and winter).
☆ Working visa sponsorship and renewal available.
★ Teachers may be asked to teach late classes until 19:30 four days a week, or four hours of Saturday morning classes. Candidates must be available for either.
☆ Current positions are for English "Group" teachers. Students spend their day in a Japanese homeroom. English teachers take their group to a separate room for daily English lessons. Teachers who stay with us and recontract have the option of becoming an English "Homeroom" teacher. In addition to regular GrapeSEED lessons, homeroom teachers share a class with a Japanese teacher and spend the full day with their own class of children.
☆ Immediate full time start. We will consider candidates who can start part time and become full time from April. Candidates should not currently under the obligations of another contract.
★ Further positions starting at the end of March 2019.
Please submit your resume and cover letter through the Gaijinpot website. In addition to introducing yourself, your cover letter should respond to the following points:
☆ What is your current availability?
★ Most teachers are here until 18:30 and some of our latest classes run until 19:30 at night. If you live more than an hour away, would you be interested in relocating for the position?
☆ Our school currently teaches English to over 600 students using the GrapeSEED curriculum. To have teachers become proficient in this teaching method it generally takes a couple of years and a lot of dedication. Do you have an idea of how long you are looking to remain in Japan and do you consider teaching English as the direction you would like your career to go in the long term?
★ With such a high student number, working at Fuji Kindergarten is highly rewarding but also quite demanding of its teachers. This isn't your ordinary Kindergarten. Staff need to be punctual and well organized. They need to plan dynamic and interesting lessons while balancing a busy schedule. You need to have the ability to keep track of multiple things that will be asked of you each week. Do you consider yourself to be well organized? Please give an example of how you successfully managed a busy and stressful time in a previous job.
☆ We have a strong preference for teachers with a wide variety of interests and skills. Outside of teaching, what kind of hobbies or studies do you pursue? Many of our teachers enjoy playing music, cooking, learning craft skills like tailoring and leather working and play sports or video games. Many of these things translate into points of engagement we can use to connect better with our students.
★ To the best of your understanding, please describe how a child acquires and learns their first language. What things are important to consider in teaching them a second language?
☆ Finally, what is your teaching philosophy? In other words, what roles do you think a teacher is supposed to fulfill, what are your goals and how do you achieve them?
★ Submit your proof-read resume and cover letter. As this is a position for teaching English, applications with poor grammar and spelling will be rejected.
☆ After receiving your resume and cover letter we will screen to determine if minimum requirements have been met.
★ For prospective candidates first round interviews will be contacted to arrange a short phone or Skype interview.
☆ Successful candidates will be invited to a second round interview at our school's location in Tachikawa to which you'll be asked to bring residence card, passport, copies of qualifications and letters of reference.
