Description

Job context: Yamanashi Gakuin Senior High School is a privately-funded International Baccalaureate World School (from 2017). Our approximately 1000 students can choose among maths/science, dual-language IB, global/humanities, and sports as pathways for university. Our dual-language IB Diploma Programme requires students to take the Core (Extended Essay, CAS, TOK) in Japanese, four academic courses in Japanese, and two courses in English. The school is currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated teacher for the following subject area(s):

- Language B (English)
- In addition to the above IB subject area, the school may also require the teacher to deliver English lessons in other high school national curriculum courses.

Basic Teaching Responsibilities:
- Stay current on approaches to teaching and learning (related to conceptual, active, and inquiry learning)
- Keep accurate records of attendance, assessments, scores, and feedback for progress updates
- Complete unit planners in a timely manner
- Maintain digital files of lessons
- Attend IB and subject meetings as scheduled
- Attend IB trainings as needed
- Additional duties to be discussed

Start Date: April 2019

Working Conditions:
- Salary: ¥350,000 (negotiable)
- Living allowance: ¥19,000 (renting) / ¥7,000 (owning)
- Tuition credit (% to be discussed) for dependents attending Yamanashi Gakuin kindergarten, elementary, junior high school and/or high school
- Commuting fee allowance (depends upon distance from work)
- Private school health insurance (deducted from pay)
- All public holidays (teachers may be asked to work during weekends or on public holidays; however, in such a case an exchange holiday will be given)
- Summer holidays (August 1 - August 25)
- Winter holidays (December 24 - the first day of school required by all teachers after New Year’s Day)
- Working hours are Monday to Friday 8:20 AM - 5:05 PM

Skills: Applicants must demonstrate open-mindedness to work within a Japanese cultural context, strong communication to facilitate teamwork, organizational skills to complete required IBDP documentation in a timely manner, and the desire to improve their teaching practice and actively pursue learning strategies and theory.

- STEP 1: Wednesday, January 23, 2019 (deadline may be adjusted in special cases): Applicants should submit their CV/resume outlining their teaching experience, education, and work history along with a cover letter outlining their teaching philosophy, language learning strategies, and suitability for this position to Mr. Ko Horiuchi at k-horiuchi@yghs.ed.jp. - STEP 2: Successfully screened applicants will be asked to submit a lesson plan. Specific details regarding the content of the lesson plan will be sent to qualified applicants. A timeline for the remaining application process will also be included.
- STEP 3: The interview will either be face-to-face or through Skype. Candidates will be asked to 1) demonstrate a portion of their lesson plan, and/or 2) discuss and describe how they would manage that lesson plan. Questions from the hiring team will follow the lesson. If a candidate is asked to attend a face-to-face interview, travel expenses will not be reimbursed by the school.
- STEP 4: Results will be shared.

An offer of employment will require candidates to provide copies of their original university degrees, transcripts and teaching license (if applicable).
