About Masabi

At Masabi, we are helping to make cities better places to live, work and visit by enabling seamless, frictionless journeys on public transport systems. We are a SaaS company developing a fare collection platform that allows people to buy and present tickets for public transit on their mobile phones or by tapping a bank card or smart card to travel.

We believe a new fare payments system allowing passengers to tap and ride, without needing to buy a ticket or understand fares, should be available to every passenger and every transit agency around the globe, without prohibitive costs or taking years to deliver, helping people move seamlessly from A to B.

Our Justride platform has won numerous awards and is in use in over 140 locations worldwide, including New York, London, Boston, Las Vegas, Valencia, The Hague, Los Angeles, Melbourne, and many more. With an exciting industry-first mobile ticketing SDK, we are partnering with companies like Uber, Lyft, Transit, Moovit to enable the purchase of public transit tickets within leading mobility applications.

Join us on this exciting ride as we build the transit technology ecosystem of tomorrow.

The Role:

We are looking for a Business Development Manager in Japan to identify, engage, and secure new public transportation operators through a partnership with system integrators for the company’s highly successful mobile ticketing and contactless EMV account based fare collection products.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about the future of transportation and mobility and who is excited to deliver our technology to new customers and riders in Japan.

Reporting to our Country Manager in Japan, this role will be critical to continued growth in Japan, building on our existing global success and positioning Masabi as a market leader in the Japanese mobility and fare collection ecosystem.

Location: This is a remote role available for Japan-based candidates only.

Responsibilities:

Own the full sales cycle from account targeting to close
Create and manage an effective sales pipeline for the Japanese public transportation market.
Build account plans to plan a strategy for customer capture; execute that plan and report on progress
Work with transportation operators and local solution partners to understand their business needs and constraints and how Masabi’s platform can help with them.
Working with the Partnerships organisation to onboard and support Japanese market partner.
Work with partners to groom pipeline as well as occasionally source new partners
Supporting partners’ sales activities with the end-customer
Educating Masabi on the Japanese market. Updating team on BD/partnership activities
Analyze market trends and advocate for new market opportunities.
Liaise with the product team to communicate opportunities and market requirements.
Create pitch decks, software and hardware demos and other content that position Masabi to succeed with potential new customers.
Advocate for Masabi’s fare collection and ticketing platform at industry events and conferences.
Establish and improve Masabi’s brand recognition in the local market.

Requirements:

Extensive experience developing partner relationships at senior levels for a B2B technology product, preferably in a SaaS model
Exposure to both Japanese and Western business environments
Know how to sell-in to both the private and government sector and can speak fluently about the benefits of as-a-service technology.
Experience in roles building long term, mutually beneficial relationships between businesses and their partners.
Ideally experience in the public transportation industry, and owns a business network with train and bus sectors, public transportation ticketing vendors, and/or Ministry of Land.
Ideally, having brought a product into the transportation market before.
Comfortable with long sales cycles that require months and potentially years of grooming
You are diligent and organised, confident and able to manage deals from first contact, through proposals or RFP responses, to contract negotiations and deal close.
You are passionate about the future of transportation, mobility, and cities and are looking to make a difference in building the transportation technology ecosystem of tomorrow.
You have strong concerns for social responsibilities in the Japan region, such as climate changes, local depopulation and abolishment of local train routes.
You are product-minded, able to engage in technical conversations with stakeholders and have an understanding of market requirements.
You are curious, want to push yourself to keep learning, and are willing to take on board ideas from others. You are a natural communicator, excited to represent our product and service in the Japanese transportation market by engaging with transit agency executives, officials and industry partners.
You are highly persistent and comfortable with finding creative ways to engage prospective clients.
You are a self-starter and able to work independently.
You are comfortable with working in a diversified culture.
You have good character, smiles, and love to work hard and play hard.

Diversity:

We celebrate multiple approaches and points of view, striving to create an environment where everyone feels empowered to bring their full, authentic selves to work. Whoever you are, just be yourself. We encourage people from underrepresented backgrounds to apply and we don’t discriminate. Also, please notify our team of your pronouns at any point in your application.

Interviewing:

All interviews are expected to take place by phone or video.

Remote working:

Masabi’s flexible working policy will allow you to work fully remotely, or from one of our offices in London, Cluj, New York, Denver or Boston. The choice about where you work from will be largely made by you. Regardless of where you choose to work from, you will be allowed to work outside of the country of your employment for up to 3 months each year.
