JOB OVERVIEW
Nagoya University is seeking a highly skilled specialist in copy writing/copy editing to create content and review materials for all communications and public outreach activities in the new International Public Relations Office, to begin April 1, 2022.

Primary duties: This person is the key content creator and reviewer for print and web publications that support the International Public Relations Office outreach activities. They will create written and other types of content for English-language PR materials; receive assignments and write English copy for publication across all communications platforms (i.e. speeches, full-length features, brief articles, profiles, social media posts, news releases, e-mail newsletters, web content, brochures, and video scripts); plan, write, edit, produce, and disseminate publications across all communication platforms; copy edit and proofread International Public Relations Office materials; attend university events, such as lectures, conferences, and student events, to cover and write stories; create, edit, proofread, and distribute English-language press releases related to research results; support departmental press releases aimed at an international audience; and fulfill other duties related to international public relations. The primary language for content creation is English. Content should be created from both English and Japanese sources. The working environment will use a mixture of English and Japanese. Employment by contract, renewable for three years from hire.

An ideal candidate will have:
1) A bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree and experience related to copy writing and copy editing
2) Native-level English skill, able to write and proofread text (academic writing experience a plus)
3) Experience in English-language translation, English-language editing, and/or English language writing
4) Japanese fluency preferred. However, applicants with extensive experience as a copy writer do not require any Japanese proficiency.

Working hours: Monday-Friday 8:30-17:15 (1 hour lunch break included)

Working Conditions: Most of your time will be spent producing and editing copy to be posted on the Nagoya University website and other publication outlets. An important part of your job will be to build relations with Nagoya University's researchers and students. You will contribute to creating interesting material for an international audience promoting Nagoya University's research, educational programs, and contributions to the community. This might include profiles of people at the university, promotion of specific programs, and the creation of promotional materials such as pamphlets and newsletters. You will find many topics to write about, including profiles of Nobel laureates and other highly cited researchers. Nagoya University is especially strong in Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Oceanography, Atmospheric Science, Transportation Science and Technology, Agricultural Sciences, and Mechanical Engineering. As you will be an integral member of a new international team of 5-7 people operating a new office, you will have the chance to shape a diverse and productive office culture. You will report to the director of the International Public Relations Office, who will then report directly to the Vice-President of International Affairs. Although you will come to the office most days, there will be opportunities to work from home as well. You will work at Nagoya University's Higashiyama Campus in a leafy suburb of the city. It is within walking distance of Higashiyama Botanical Gardens and Higashiyama Zoo. Nagoya Station is about 20 minutes away by subway. There are several kindergartens, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and other universities in the area. For staff, Nagoya University operates its own daycare center and after-school care for elementary school children. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who wishes to use their writing skills in a challenging but intellectually stimulating environment.

Compensation: 4 million yen to 7 million yen per year. Salary will be determined based on the applicant’s experience and other qualifications. Also included are health insurance (National Public Officers Mutual Aid Association), employee’s pension, employment insurance, worker’s compensation insurance.

Preferred Personality: We are looking for someone who can work as a member of a small team in a bilingual environment. The person should be enthusiastic about the challenge of building the new International Public Relations Office.
