Amidst the mountains and valleys of Gifu are many secrets and treasures waiting for you to discover. Nature and history buffs will find plenty to enjoy, as one feels the atmosphere of the Edo period all throughout the area. Gifu is famous for its Washi paper industry, which creates unique products such as lanterns and umbrellas.

It's also a center for the Japanese swordsmithing and cutlery industries. If you're looking for a little more of the 21st century though, Nagoya is easily accessible to the south, and Gifu's own premiere Gifu City is a center of great food and culture.
