This is an exciting opportunity for the newest branch of AIC:

AIC International School: Elementary Education

Opening: planned for April 2021

---Education at the school---
Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB): application intended
Holistic, inquiry-based, concept-based, project-based, student-centric learning

Language of instruction: English (second language: Japanese)

Pleasure of learning backed by well-balanced STEAM concept, digital technologies and brain science theories
Strong emphasis on math and science through classroom activities

Grade 1 through Grade 6 (1 through 3 only in 2021)
Age of students: 6 to 12 years old, elementary school students
Approx. 20 students per class, possibly 2 classes per grade

--- Key tasks & Expected results ---

Manage the IB PYP authorisation process as IB PYP Coordinator
• Liaison occurs with the IBO regional office
• The Principal is kept informed of IBO authorisation requirements
• Parents and students are informed about the IB PYP
• Teachers are kept abreast of IB Standards and Practices in the development of their curricula
• Administrative requirements are met in a timely manner
• Staff have access to the MYIB for online curriculum development

Manage staff to ensure effective programme delivery
• Assessment and reporting are developed and managed
• Programme schedules and timetables are prepared to facilitate efficient delivery
• External agency (e.g. IBO) requirements are met, especially with respect to IB PYP Coordinator tasks
• Quality control measures are implemented in accordance with IBO Standards and Practices
• Analyses and reports are made for the Principal on student individual and group academic results which include comparisons with the previous term and previous year
• Staff teacher meetings are scheduled, chaired and minuted to ensure effective communication
• All necessary tasks related to the IB Coordinator’s responsibilities are completed
• IBO 5 Year Review and Self-study is managed and completed

Manage teaching effectiveness
• Professional development of staff is facilitated, managed and recorded in liaison with the Principal
• Student responsibility for maintaining clean and tidy classrooms is enforced

Ensure that staff assess, monitor and record student progress
• The academic calendar is managed in liaison with senior management
• Assessment is used as part of the learning process
• Reporting of student results is efficient and understandable to the student.

Ensure that staff guide and support students
• All the feedback events (e.g. student-led conference, parents evenings etc.) are organised effectively
• Exhibition is organised and conducted effectively

Develop professionally
• Appraisal is participated in as required by policies
• Changes are made in response to feedback from students and peers
• Professional development activities are actively engaged in to remain current with developments in the International Baccalaureate programme

Display professionalism
• All students and staff are treated with respect
• High standards of personal presentation are maintained
• Cooperation with other staff is demonstrated
• Parents and caregivers are communicated with in a professional manner
• Quality management system policies and procedures are complied with
• Administrative tasks are completed efficiently
• Meetings are attended as required
• Concerns are raised in-house
• Additional delegations and responsibilities are carried out as negotiated
• Contribution is made to the broader life of the school

--- Conditions/Benefits ---

Working hours: 8:00am - 4:00pm
Working days: Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays

Holidays: a. Saturdays and Sundays; b. Japanese national holidays stipulated by law; c. All days from December 29th to January 3rd; d. 5 holidays to be used during the summer scheduled holiday in July and August (these days include days when the school is closed for the Obon holiday)

Contract start: Principal/ PYPC: September, 2020 (ASAP)

Contract term: Principal/ PYPC: September 1st, 2020 - August 31st, 2021 (renewable yearly)

Remuneration: PYPC: 5,000,000 ~ 5,500,000 yen per year, depending on experience and skills

Transportation costs covered up to 30,000 yen per month

Pay cycle: 11th of the previous month to 10th of the current month, paid on the 25th of the current month (i.e. September 1st to September 10th will be paid on September 25th)

Insurance : Social (Health, Pension, Unemployment)
