Miralba Kids is currently looking for native-speaking English teachers with a passion for children’s English education in Japan.

Miralba Kids is a hybrid educational program that provides Saturday field trips and 40-minute online lessons after school, as well as seasonal camps. Miralba Kids provides a variety of opportunities for children to expand on their natural curiosity through play, inquiry and discovery. Miralba Kids is changing the way of teaching English in Japan with a first-of-its-kind method that allows children to steadily and enjoyably acquire English language skills through a variety of hands-on experiences. 

(Seasonal) Summer Camp Counselor Position Details:
Miralba Kids is currently seeking applicants who are excellent at teaching and planning fun, engaging and educational outdoor activities for children (ages 4-11) to learn English while being in nature. This year’s summer camp will be held in Karuizawa, Nagano. Accommodation, meals and transportation will be provided.

The camp counselor duties consist of leading and teaching a variety of activities such as sports and other outdoor recreational activities, debate and speech, project-based learning, STEAM projects, etc., to a small group of students. Camp counselors must supervise students overnight in the cabin, enforce camp rules and ensure safety.

Those who have a considerable amount of experience managing camps for toddlers through elementary age children may apply for the camp manager position instead. Camp managers will be in charge of planning and creating age-appropriate lessons with the support from the Head Teacher.

(Part-time) Saturday Day Camp + Online Hybrid English Teacher Details:
We are also seeking inspiring teachers who can accompany children (ages 4-11) during Saturday field trips (Day Camps) to first explore and learn together outside the classroom, and reflect on the day at the end in a classroom setting. Responsibilities include supporting staff with safely transporting a group of children to various venues, conversing with students in English, playing games/sports and assisting students with reading and writing practice during classroom time.

This teacher would also teach online lessons to some of the students from Day Camps (from 1-3 lessons per week, Mondays through Fridays from 5:45 to 9:40 pm). Lesson plans/ppts will be provided, but those who can also be responsible for creating teaching materials in the future are preferred.

At least 2 years of prior teaching experience (for toddlers through elementary aged children) and experience teaching phonics to children ages four to nine with zero English ability is required. Schedules and plans can change due to various circumstances so teachers are also required to be flexible and patient while maintaining a positive attitude. Applicants must have a laptop with stable Wi-Fi.

Schedule: Day camps are held every Saturday (4 times a month) from 9:30 am to 5:25 pm with a 45-minute break. Applicants must be able to attend at least twice per month.

Salary:
■ Camp Counselor: 21,000 yen per 2 days with 1 night (meals provided, transportation from Tokyo/Omiya station to Karuizawa and back are paid) Manager's allowance paid separately, depending on experience
■ Online lesson preparation and teaching duties: 1,800 - 4,000 yen/lesson, depending on experience (40-minute lessons + 20-minute prep and reflection time)
■ Day Camp Teacher and/or Assistant: 1,300 - 2,000 yen/hour, depending on experience (lunch provided and transportation expenses reimbursed) Applicants must be living within the greater Tokyo area as transportation fare is only reimbursed from home to Shibuya-ku up to 1000 yen each way.

All employees must complete an initial three-month probationary period. After successful completion of the probationary period, the applicant may be offered a part-time position with a raise in hourly wage based on qualifications and previous job experiences. Applicants must have current work authorization in Japan.
