NEW JOB OPENING: Embassy of Sweden seeking staff to the Office of Science and Innovation

The Office of Science and Innovation is an integrated part of the Embassy but the section is managed by the Science and Innovation Counselor who is sent out by the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation in Sweden.
The main mission of the Office of Science and Innovation is to:
• conduct long-term and strategic promotion of innovation, research and higher education in areas of importance for Sweden as a knowledge nation.
• contribute to strengthening global connections to for Sweden strategically important international innovation, research, and higher education environments.
• help to promote Sweden as a knowledge nation attractive for investment and cooperation.
• promote a greater international impact of Swedish innovation, research and higher education.
• collect intelligence and conduct analysis and gather knowledge on the basis of direct contacts and networks in the country.

This is done by in-depth analysis, written reports, networking with decision-makers in Sweden and Japan, and by organizing delegations, workshops and other events. The Office of Science and Innovation maintains an extensive contact network with key persons and organizations from research-, innovation- and growth policies in government, academia and industry.

We are looking for an outgoing Japanese-English speaking generalist with hands-on knowledge from innovation, research, and higher education in Japan. This is a senior expert position and it’s a full time employment until further notice, with a six month probation period. Starting date is negotiable.The suitable candidate has interest and in depth competence in one or several of the business, academic and public sectors. We think it is helpful to have a generic understanding of both policy and business aspects of growth and innovation, and to be used to work in an international environment.

You will be responsible for specific assignments and projects, including all steps from analysis, and reporting/promotion. Your tasks include preparing for delegations within our fields of interest, and supporting visiting decision makers and officials from Sweden. Since you will be part of the Embassy team (Team Sweden), you will have a possibility to be part of a wide range of tasks that the Embassy is performing.

Promotion, reporting and networking are substantial parts of our everyday work. The right candidate therefore has prominent communication skills in general and excellent English writing skills in particular. For spoken language, Japanese and English business level is a requirement. Furthermore, it is essential to have a deep understanding of the Japanese society. Independence, integrity and flexibility are preferred characteristics for this position.

Approximately 25 persons work at the Embassy and the areas of work include politics and economics, promotion, press and information, science and innovation, administration, consular affairs and defense cooperation.
