Description

Starting September 2020 (earlier/later start possible), Kobe Bilingual School (KOBILS) is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and flexible teacher to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team.

What kind of teacher are we looking for?

The successful applicant will have experience teaching primary age children, strong writing skills, be interested in professional development, and be enthusiastic about working with children, age 2-18, who are bilingual or developing bilingualism. At the top end of the salary scale, the applicant will be a qualified teacher with at least 2 years experience teaching at an international school abroad, or a primary school in their own country, be interested in a homeroom position, and be capable of taking on projects that will benefit the entire school. While a teaching license from a home country is necessary for an elementary school position and early learning qualifications are preferred for a kindergarten position, experience, enthusiasm, and the ability to work unsupervised within a team are key requirements.

Strong computer/technology skills are valued as is experience with curriculum development. Teachers must be capable of moving classes online and supporting children at a distance for which a framework and Apps are provided. Specific interest in drama, music or sports would be well received. Teachers familiar with Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence would be especially welcomed, as would teachers who have aided in the accreditation process at a previous school. We are growing each year so there are plenty of projects - technology based or curriculum based - for enthusiastic teachers who are looking to make a real contribution to our expanding school.

What kind of school/team are we?

KOBILS has a daycare, bilingual kindergarten and elementary school, and afterschool and Saturday program for children/students who speak English well. We have a one-to-one iPad program for all children aged 6 and over and technology is a big part of our curriculum.

There are typically 10-14 children in each grade/year level from Kindergarten to grade 5 (grade 6 opening next year) and our after-school programs. We have evening classes with junior and senior high school students who speak English well. Our school has a number of unique programs including life-skills where children learn to put together furniture, manage money through personal bank accounts and form small companies aimed at making a small profit each year. They also take care of everyday tasks from ironing and cooking to changing light bulbs. Our children are strong, kind, inquisitive lifelong learners with can-do attitudes which are reflected by our teachers. We are a small, dedicated and flexible team working in a unique and rewarding environment where children have fun learning and the emphasis is on individual progress rather than passing exams or performing at baseline.

What will the initial position involve?

The teacher in the initial position will cover all programs in the school in a support position or as a lead teacher for specific classes. It's a good chance to sample all the different positions available at the school! From April qualified teachers could move to an elementary school home room position, while all teachers could choose to take a lead position at Kindergarten or continue in a position of support across the school.

What benefits are there?

Twenty-five paid holidays a year plus most public holidays. Furnished company apartments at a competitive rent available for teachers electing to live near the school; tuition discounts up to 100% for children of teachers/staff aged 2-10 (full-time) and up to 18 (part-time). Shakai hoken health insurance/pension provided. Partial-full payment available for training courses to upgrade qualifications including a possible PGCEi for non-qualified teachers after one year.

How do I apply?
Please fill out the online resume with GaijinPot. Please also include a personalized - not generic - cover letter explaining your interest in the position and school and showing that you have reviewed our webpage and thought specifically about this position. We will reply to all applicants who apply specifically for our position and none who click apply with a generic or no cover letter! We are looking forward to hearing from you. Come join us!
