Description

J Prep is seeking enthusiastic intellectuals to join our outstanding team as part-time instructors in order to accommodate our rapidly-growing student population. In this role, the applicant, as a team member, will be responsible for teaching English to students in our various programs, with students ranging in ages from 6 to 18. Our compensation is highly competitive, as we wish to recruit great teaching talent.

This position involves teaching lessons following J Prep’s lesson plans and using J Prep materials as a base for lessons, while customizing lessons and encouraging students as much as possible.

Successful candidates must have at least a bachelor’s degree, relevant teaching experience, and must be native speakers of English or be able to demonstrate native-level proficiency. Japanese language proficiency, though helpful, is not required for this position.

We are looking for candidates who:
 Can engage and motivate a large group of young learners
 Are flexible and experienced enough to handle the unexpected from students
 Are able to maintain contact with managers and team staff
 Are able to commit to the year-long academic schedule

We also value candidates with a great personality who can engage and encourage our students above most other qualifications. Initial training and a chance to shadow lessons will be provided. Further support in the form of workshops and quarterly observations will be provided as well.

About J Prep

J Prep is a liberal arts afterschool program based in Shibuya, with branches in Jiyugaoka, Kichijoji, and Sakata. J Prep was founded in 2012 by Jun Saito, a former assistant professor of political science at Yale University and the author of several recent bestselling books.

Our students are between the ages of 3 through 18 and attend top schools in and around Tokyo. Many of our students aspire to study abroad, attend university at high-ranking schools in the United States and other countries, or enter English-oriented domestic programs.

Our highly-qualified faculty members are graduates of some of the top liberal arts programs in the US and internationally, and many hold advanced degrees.

J Prep is rapidly expanding. Our multimedia curriculum is intended to broaden students' perspectives, and supplemental courses in various liberal arts disciplines (such as literature, economics, and science) are offered periodically. Our long-term mission is to better the overall quality of the Japanese educational system from the bottom up, rather than merely teaching conversational English or preparing students for entrance exams in Japan. As a majority of our faculty members have lived outside Japan, they understand the importance of English as a communication device. For the same reason, J Prep's work environment is not confined by traditional Japanese corporate culture.

Please note that due to the volume of applicants we regularly receive we will only contact shortlisted candidates directly.
