Your Duties:
- Editing/proofreading JA to EN game translation (games are primarily R-18, geared towards a male audience)
- Discussing deadlines and localization with the client (mainly over written text, in Japanese)
- Creating translation guidelines (for in-house purposes)
- Providing comprehensive feedback on translation tools, as well as feedback on translations to computer models
- Managing schedules for translation of the same project over different languages
- Keeping track of costs for the project you are supervising
- Hiring & managing editors/translators working on the project you are supervising
Requirements:
- Having at least 2 years of experience in localizing JA-EN
- Speaking Japanese at N2 level or above (to be verified during the interview, you don’t need to have taken the exam)
- Being a native English speaker with an understanding of the cultural/language differences between Japanese and Western culture
- Being able to translate and edit text, while applying existing guidelines and coming up with updates for them
- Being interested in the anime/otaku culture is a plus, a basic understanding of fandom culture is required
Preferred Personality:
- Is used to working 8 hours in front of a computer
- Is used to functioning with a relatively high degree of autonomy
- Can work remotely, communicating via chat or call (Slack)
- Can bond with co-workers even when they are entirely working remotely
- Has attention to detail such as minor punctuation mistakes, etc.
- Can multitask, switching between translations requiring a different tone
Translation Flow:
AI Translation → Editing by native EN translator → Proofreading by native EN speaker → File preparation → Handing the file to the dev team
In the flow above, you will be in charge of the proofreading, file preparation, and overall management. This means you will be functioning in an environment that requires you to take initiative and grants you a large degree of autonomy. It can be fulfilling, but we acknowledge that not everyone is suited to this style of working.

Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, weekends & national holidays off, 8 hours per working day

About the Application:
1. After the first screening, you will be asked to do a translation/proofreading test online. Our screeners will be looking for accuracy, smoothness, and of course, grammar and spelling. You will be given about a week to complete the test, which should not take you more than 45 minutes. Only those who have passed the test will proceed to phase 2.
2. First interview with HR, online.
3. Second interview with the team leader, online.
4. Final interview with the CEO, usually held at our office in Ikebukuro.
*The games to be translated are not the ones on our website; this is a new project dealing with games of a genre different from the games we are publishing.
*Every employee at our company starts on a 1-year contract, to be renewed at the end of the year, or switched to 正社員. Terms are also somewhat negotiable to accommodate those working freelance, or wishing to work 6 hours per day.
