Description

Sunnyside International School, an IB Primary Years Program (PYP) World School, is currently seeking full-time ENGLISH LANGUAGE SPECIALIST teachers, to start August 2021.

Due to the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, we are in the position to only hire teachers who are already living in Japan. We will NOT be hiring teachers who are currently situated outside of Japan.

Successful applicants will work alongside Japanese Classroom Teachers, to collaborate, plan and deliver transdisciplinary inquiry-based learning experiences in English, to children aged 3-6 years old.
This style of teaching and learning requires practitioners who subscribe to constructivist pedagogical principles, and are able to adopt the role of a ‘facilitator’ and an ‘activator’. Child-centered teaching and learning is central to the school program at Sunnyside International School.

Working at our school is a deeply rewarding experience, but one that requires a higher level of maturity, responsibility, work ethic, and commitment than many other of the English teaching jobs in Japan.

Teachers are also required to independently plan, teach and assess after-school English language classes to graduates of our kindergarten. Therefore, applicants with experience in teaching English to elementary and junior high school students will be very highly regarded.

Applicants should be available to visit the school for a full-day working interview, and be able to attend orientation training before commencing employment. Candidates who aren’t able to visit the school for a full-day interview may still apply, however preference will be given to those who can.

Applicants will have a teaching license/early-childhood diploma, or experience working with young children, as well as being able to demonstrate a high level of ability, creativity, and enthusiasm in this field.

Preferred applicants will hold an international/Japanese driver's license, or be able to acquire one. Visa renewal is available to those holding a valid bachelors degree.

Depending on availability, subsidised, furnished apartments and lease cars will be provided for new teachers. There are also bonuses available on top of the regular monthly salary, with annual increases based on performance. Approximately 7 weeks of paid vacation that correspond with the school vacation times (summer, winter, spring), and 5 days of personal leave are also provided.

Applicants must send a cover letter explaining why they are interested in this position, along with a resume, photo, and two references.

Only applicants who meet these requirements will be contacted.
