JOB TITLE: Integrated Communications Planning Director (UM Japan) in McCann Erickson Japan.Inc
REPORTS TO: CEO (UM Japan)
SALARY: negotiable based on skills and experience
LOCATION: Tokyo (but given the nature of the role a certain amount of travel is a necessity)
This role is compromised of many elements but can most easily be summarized as a leading role within UM focused upon strategy, communications planning, and thought leadership for our clients in Japan.
The ICP Director would be part of a broader team responsible for interpreting data about consumers and brands in order to generate piercing insights, have the ability to frame activity around a compelling connection idea, be able to translate those ideas into integrated / amplified channel plans and ultimately make all of this results oriented. The ideal candidate would work very closely with our regional strategy team, analytics and digital disciplines to ensure 360 degree thinking.
In essence, the role is a hybrid. One part integrated communications planner and the other part, a results driven analyst.
Scale and Scope of the Role
The role is far reaching but, in the main, would encompass the following:
•To champion, capture and celebrate cutting edge thinking, establishing a culture of creativity and building a passion for the product – effectively closing the gap between the vision and reality
•Continued development of both of our strategic framework, Curiosity both from a local & regional angle but also from global perspective
•Understanding and assimilation of related client-based strategic frameworks
•An ability to develop engaging consumer insights, understand consumers and use that knowledge to create fully integrated communication solutions
•Become an integral part of our new business drive in Japan and participate when appropriate on global / regional opportunities
•Help drive the constant development and upgrading of our proprietary systems and tools
•Work with partner agencies (most notably McCann Erickson) to help grow our relationships with clients (encouraging diversity of approach and full integration of the available disciplines and resource)
•Training for all relevant planners / strategists, nurturing the existing strategic talent and also hiring it when the need arises
•Knowledge beyond pure advertising communication and into owned, earned and paid models
•Make us famous for our thinking by regular contributions to the trade press, participation at conferences, winning awards etc.
Ostensibly this role is to work across all our UM clients as and when the needs arise.

We want to seed our business with divergent thinkers. Consequently the candidate doesn’t necessarily need CP experience although time served in the development of strategic communications is essential, for example:
•Account / Brand / Engagement Planner in creative agency
•Other discipline (PR, CRM, Digital etc.)
