AIC International School: Elementary Education

Opening: April 2021

Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB): application intended
Holistic, inquiry-based, concept-based, project-based, student-centric learning

Language of instruction: English (second language: Japanese)

We strive to impart the pleasure of learning backed by well-balanced STEAM concepts, digital technologies and brain science theories
Strong emphasis on math and science through classroom activities

Grade 1 through Grade 6 (only Grade 1 through 3 in 2021)
Age of students: 6 to 12 years old, elementary school students
Approx. 20 students per class, possibly 2 classes per grade

**********************THE JOB*************************

Position title: Homeroom Teacher

Reports to: Principal, PYP Coordinator for IB issues

Main Purpose: implement the pedagogies of the IB Primary Years Programme in the classroom to ensure each student’s healthy learning and growth

Key relationships: PYP Coordinator, other homeroom/specialist teachers and administrative staff

Key Tasks & Expected Results

Support the IB PYP authorisation process

• Support the Principal and PYP Coordinator for the school to comply with the IBO authorisation requirements
• Remain abreast of IB Standards and Practices and utilize the MYIB in the development of the curricula and teaching plan
• Administrative requirements are met in a timely manner
• Parents and students are informed about the IB PYP
• Participate in IBO 5 Year Review and Self-study

Ensure effective programme delivery

• Assessment and reporting are conducted properly and timely
• Programme schedules and timetables are properly followed for efficient delivery
• Quality control measures are followed in accordance with IBO Standards and Practices
• Staff teacher meetings are attended for effective communication and coordination on various issues

Ensure teaching effectiveness

• Students actively engage in learning in a respected manner
• Student responsibility for maintain clean and tidy classrooms is enforced

Ensure the assessment, monitoring and recording of student progress

• The academic calendar is managed in liaison with senior management
• Assessment is used as part of the learning process
• Reporting of student results is efficient and understandable to the student.

Provide guidance and support to students

• All the feedback events (e.g. student-led conference, parents evenings etc.) are conducted effectively
• Exhibition in Grade 6 is conducted effectively

Develop as a professional

• Appraisal is participated in as required by policies
• Changes are made in response to feedback from students and peers
• Professional development activities are actively engaged in to remain current with developments in the International Baccalaureate programme

Display professionalism

• All students and staff are treated with respect
• High standards of personal presentation are maintained
• Cooperation with other staff is demonstrated
• Parents and caregivers are communicated with in a professional manner
• Quality management system policies and procedures are complied with
• Administrative tasks are completed efficiently
• Meetings are attended as required
• Concerns are raised in-house
• Additional delegations and responsibilities are carried out as negotiated
• Contribution is made to the broader life of the school

Working hours: 8:00am - 4:00pm
Working days: Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays

Holidays: a. Saturdays and Sundays; b. Japanese national holidays stipulated by law; c. All days from December 29th to January 3rd; d. 5 holidays to be used during the summer scheduled holiday in July and August (these days include days when the school is closed for the Obon holiday)

Contract start: April 2021

Contract term: April 1, 2021 - March 31, 2022 (renewable yearly)

Remuneration: 3,500,000 ~ 4,500,000 yen per year, depending on experience and skills

Transportation costs covered up to 30,000 yen per month

Pay cycle: 11th of the previous month to 10th of the current month, paid on the 25th of the current month (i.e. September 1st to September 10th will be paid on September 25th)

Insurance : Social (Health, Pension, Unemployment)
