Description

The Systems/Network Manager is responsible for ensuring the streamlined operation of ICT hardware and wider infrastructure and the interoperability of ICT systems and platforms, both academic and support, to ensure the smooth operation of the organization, the protection and integrity of the organization’s data and, crucially, the enhancement of effective student learning.

Specifically, the Systems/Network Manager is responsible for the following:

General / Overall
・ Work with Technology Coordinator to develop an organization-wide Technology plan, which includes an organization-wide plan for systems to enhance student learning and meet users’ needs.
・ Support the Technology Coordinator in planning, developing, and implementing the ICT budget, obtaining competitive prices from suppliers, to ensure cost-effectiveness of the department.
・ Work to support the Technology Department and members of the administration in the effective development of the organization’s initiatives and programs.
・ Assist with developing and documenting IT policies, procedures, and practices.
・ Keep up to date with the latest technologies, undertake available training opportunities, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development.

Hardware/Software Infrastructure
・ Develop and implement a program of scheduled maintenance monitor the performance of the network, diagnose and resolve network infrastructure, networking software and hardware faults (including peripherals, anti-virus software, and web servers), and perform a range of maintenance repairs and upgrades.
・ Research, evaluate, and install new & upgraded hardware & peripherals and network software related to servers and clients, to meet user needs and ensure compatibility with all the organization’s systems & platforms.
・ Work with the Technology Department to develop and implement an effective Change Management log with clear communication to improve service quality and consistency across the day-to-day operations.
・ Develop and support the system backup and recovery processes to minimize the risk and impact of a serious disaster and threats to continuity, including coordination of the appropriate backup regime and virus protection.
・ Work with the Technology Coordinator in crises which may involve complex technical hardware or software problems.
・ Ensure the effective running of all the organization’s adopted tools/systems/platforms in line with the mission.
・ Develop and implement a program of scheduled upgrades and ensure that these are effectively communicated to all users.
・ Ensure there is clear and current documentation to support the ICT systems.

Working with Staff and Users
・ Carry out ongoing evaluation of system functionality by consulting users to understand implications and workflows.
・ Create and maintain usernames, sharing, permissions, and security for accessing the network resources in line with policy guidelines.
・ Support, mentor, advise, and coach staff as appropriate with the aim of supporting the effective implementation of systems.
・ Work with the Technology Coordinator to identify and train super-users on appropriate systems or modules.
・ Offer user support for legacy systems (e.g. budgeting software, Leyser system).
・ Consult users to ascertain needs and to ensure that the network meets user requirements.
・ Liaise with & organize external ICT consultants, contractors, or other external services necessary to ensure the maintenance of a strong, cost-effective ICT infrastructure and inventory.
・ Assist with efficient, service-oriented, and timely technical support, through an efficient help-desk system, for both academic and support employees.
・ Carry out ongoing evaluation of system functionality by consulting users to understand implications and workflows.

Job-Related Skills
・ Relevant degree or industry qualification.
・ 5+ years of experience in a similar role.
・ Ability to identify & solve advanced technical problems.
・ Strong analytical skills.
