Qualified Teaching Assistant for Special Needs - Elementary School.

【Language ability】

English: Speak, Read & Write fluently and the ability to instruct, mentor..

【Key attributes】

Passion about getting the best from young children with Special Needs;
Previous experience and certification in Special Needs (including Spectrum disorder, Autism, Speech Therapy, Language acquisition etc);
Prefer at least University Under Graduation in related fields.

【Description of Role】
➢ Delivering tailored teaching activities to special needs students on either a one-to-one basis or in small groups under the direction of the Curriculum Coordinator or the Class-Room Teacher.
➢ Ensuring students learning / classroom engagement and assisting during learning time
➢ Supporting the social and emotional development of students and reporting to the Curriculum Coordinator.
➢ Supporting the teaching team in managing challenging student behavior and promoting positivity.
➢ Tracking, recording and giving regular feedback on student progress for the Curriculum Coordinator and/ or Parents (via School)
➢ Carrying out administrative duties and preparing classroom resources
➢ Looking after students who have had accidents, need help dressing or are emotionally upset
➢ Creating art displays of students’ artwork
➢ TAs will assist with toileting, and of changing and cleaning up for children in the event of toileting accidents.
➢ Provide support outside of your normal classes, covering other TA absences and going on school trips
➢ Help with Special Needs students include other duties such as being on a bus, when required.
➢ Participate in special events or programs Spring School or Summer School and Summer Day Camp.
➢ The TA is not an assistant to any Teacher.
Working hours are typically during the school day, in term time, Monday to Friday. Work starts around 8:15 AM in mornings and usually ends around 4:15 PM.
The TAs may be required to attend training or take courses which assist the role of Special Needs.
All school holidays are part of your holiday allowance. School is officially closed for approximately about 10 days in Spring, 15 days in Summer and about 12 days in Winter (kindly see the School Calendar for details). As finding replacement TAs is difficult at short term notice, it is important to note that leaves of absence are not approved unless planned for in advance.
The work is challenging but the progress of students is extremely rewarding.
The TA may be required to cover other areas of support at very short notice.
TA will be required to help with lifting or moving the Students under care, if necessary.
The TA’s work is in the classroom involving lunchtime supervision, outdoor activities and going on school trips.
When students head to Camps, Field Trips, Outdoor activities etc., TA shall accompany the group.
Employment contracts are either Part-time with fixed hours or Part-time fixed yearly contracts.
Location of work is at: 9-7-14, Shimorenjaku, Mitaka-shi, Tokyo 181-0013

【Start of work】
The role of the teacher is to attract and maintain the curiosity of the students and as such, the school will keep interviewing candidates until a suitable candidate is found. Likely start of work is immediate.

【Selection process】
All applications will be duly screened, and short-listed candidates will be contacted and preliminary contact via phone. Following that, the selected candidates must visit the school campus only on working days and spend about 4- 5 hours in handling or teaching the student. No financial compensation is paid for this visit. The decision on hiring is based upon feedback received and the interaction with students and peers and subject to reference checks.

【Type of position】

Contractual Part time employment until end of July 2020.

Compensation: Commensurate with ability and willingness to work. Negotiable.
