Nishimura & Asahi, one of Japan’s largest law firms, seeks applicants for the position of English-language legal editor.
This is a full-time position, with working days of Monday to Friday, 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm.
A law degree is required, and preference will be given to candidates with editing and/or legal experience, especially those who have practiced as lawyers.
The position will be offered to a native English speaker and, while Japanese language ability is not required, some Japanese language ability will be helpful.
In addition to editing and rewriting a wide range of documents and correspondence, the editor may sometimes assist in research and similar matters.
The position requires the ability to convey ideas and information effectively and concisely, in clear and professional written English.
The editor will join a professional staff that includes over 500 Japanese attorneys, 40 foreign attorneys and 10 editors from countries such as the U.K., the U.S., Australia, and Canada.
Interviews will be held in-person at our office in Otemachi, Tokyo.
The successful candidate will be expected to start work relatively soon.
The term of employment is one year (subject to satisfactory performance in the initial probation period), and may be renewed upon mutual agreement. The basic salary includes a certain amount of overtime allowance. Editors may take up to sixteen (16) business days of paid holiday per year (on a pro-rated basis).
The costs of health insurance, welfare pension insurance, employment insurance and any other insurances required by law or firm rules will be shared by the successful applicant and the firm.
