Interac Kansai & South Central Co. is currently seeking applications from experienced English educators for a Relief Teacher position based in Aichi starting in April 2018.
Relief Teachers are experienced teachers who step in when a school's regular teacher is unavailable for a prolonged period of time (illness, emergency, etc.). These can be demanding positions in that require a high degree of professionalism, flexibility, ability to travel anywhere in Central Japan on short notice, spend time away from their apartment or home, and have a very strong "can do" attitude.
The majority of the Relief Teacher's classes will be at elementary, junior high and high schools, though they may also be required to teach at corporate clients, public sector clients, conduct tests, and be involved in curriculum development and course planning. When not assigned to teach, the relief/substitute teacher may be assigned to office work, administrative work or other duties as required.
Anyone interested in working in and around Kyoto, Osaka, Shiga, Nagoya and Shizuoka Prefectures - Central Japan in general - is encouraged to apply.
Regardless of the challenges, Relief Teachers maintain a healthy work-life balance as they generally work from Monday to Friday with classes scheduled between 8 am and 5 pm. From time to time you may be required to work outside these hours/days in order to travel for assignments. Otherwise, you are able to enjoy weekends and national holidays as well as breaks in winter, spring, and summer.
Due to the varying nature of the assignment, it is expected that our Relief Teachers will be experienced teachers who can deliver meaningful lessons in elementary, junior high or high schools, sometime with little time for preparation. A driver’s license that allows them to drive in Japan is also a must.
