Description

MY English School is expanding Yamagata's first and only English immersion kindergarten from the 2018 academic year. We are looking for a native-speaker English-immersion kindergarten teacher. The position will begin in April 2018 with training in the 1-3 months prior to that.

Working days:
Monday - Friday

Teaching hours:
Variable by day but falling between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Duties:
This is a homeroom teacher position. You will work together with a licensed Japanese kindergarten teacher to nurture the children in your class in an English-speaking environment. Along with leading their English lessons, you will also conduct P.E. once a week and work cooperatively with other staff members to organize special events such as performances, birthday parties and inter-class activities. Additionally, you will be responsible for teaching MY Club, a continuation of the English program for graduates of MY Kindergarten. This position is most suitable for individuals who have experience with, or a genuine interest in, caring and being responsible for young children.

Requirements:
1) English: Native level
2) Japanese: Conversational
3) Experience residing and teaching in Japan
4) Ability to relocate to Yamagata
5) BA/BS university degree
6) Valid work visa (visa sponsorship available)
7) Professional attitude and demeanor
8) Love working with children
9) Experience teaching young learners
10) Willingness to accept helpful criticism
11) Ability to adapt to a new teaching style

Preferences:
1) Certified kindergarten teacher qualifications
2) Experience living in rural Japan

We offer:
1. 270,000 yen monthly compensation (pay raises available in subsequent contracts, contingent on performance)
2. Paid holidays
3. Professional development opportunities
4. Group membership in JALT
5. Opportunities for leadership and promotion
6. School run by certified teacher who understands your needs
7. Lifestyle support when desired (e.g., apartment setup, language support, etc.)

We expect:
Applicants should have prior experience working with children professionally, voluntarily or otherwise, and have an awareness of children’s developmental needs. We are looking for creative, hardworking individuals who are flexible and value teamwork. As a kindergarten teacher, you will be on the move throughout the day, so it’s important that you enjoy running around with kids, taking long walks and occasionally playing in the rain and mud! Also, though the kids try their best, they are not fluent English speakers and cannot express all their needs in English. Your Japanese language level must be sufficient enough to understand what they are saying or to ask your Japanese partner for help.

MY Kindergarten offers room for challenging yourself to grow as a teacher, to be creative every day and to have a lot of fun with active, loving kids! If you find yourself eager to work hard for a class of kids that you will have shared responsibility for, we look forward to reading your application.

We have a rigorous interview and screening process. The final stage will require the candidate to come to our school for a demo teaching day. For more information, please visit our hiring website at: www.teachatmy.com

Only serious educators should apply.
