Description

Pacific Language School, located in Hamadayama, Tokyo, is looking for a teacher for our sister school, Ashikagahonjo English School (足利本城イングリッシュスクール), located in Ashikaga, Tochigi. Initial interviews will be conducted in our Tokyo offices. Ashikagahonjo English School is looking for a native speaker of English to teach English as a second language at their pre-school. They are a small Buddhist school, with an emphasis on high-level learning from a young age. The student body is only around 100 students, so if you like small town life, this may be perfect for you. Ideally, the applicant will have experience in teaching children of all ages, but the job primarily involves teaching the very young, with ages ranging from 3-8 years old (there are a select few middle and high-school students as well). The applicant must also be able to hold casual conversations in Japanese, as the staff and management do not speak English at all. High-level Japanese is not a necessity per se, but please keep this in mind when applying. The position will be a two-year contract starting from August. An even earlier start date is possible. The main responsibilities of the position are detailed as follows:

+ Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (times may vary slightly)
+ Work 40 hours a week, with a maximum of 25 hours of teaching
+ Teaching approximately 10-15 small classes a week (classes are approximately 50 minutes)
+ Teaching four or five 30 minute group classes a week
+ Attending PLS training seminars two to three times a year
+ Preparing class materials
+ Maintaining class records
+ Coordinating in Japanese with school management
+ Developing new materials
+ Maintaining an orderly work-space
+ Some very simple English to Japanese translation may occasionally be required
+ Attend certain special school functions on some weekends (Sports Festivals, Hapyoukai, etc)

The starting rate of pay will be 250,000 yen per month, paid on the last day of every month. Visa sponsorship will also be provided. If you are interested, please submit your resume and a cover letter explaining why you think you might be the right choice for the position. Initial interviews will be conducted over the phone, but we also ask that you be willing to attend an interview in person at a later date (in Tokyo). Successful candidates will be asked to view / interact with a few classes as well, potentially either in Tokyo or Tochigi. The school uses a standard curriculum that you will be required to attend training sessions in Tokyo for, but the travel costs and costs of the sessions will be paid for by the management.

If you love children and have a strong teaching background, we hope that we can provide a fun and unique work environment for you. While we may not be able to respond to all applicants, we thank you for your time and interest.
