Administrative Coordinator for External Relations - Dean’s Office
Work hours: 09:00-17:30, Monday to Friday
Report to: Dean of TUJ

Visa Requirement:
Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) is able to sponsor a visa for this position.

Salary & Benefits:

Commensurate with experience.
Eleven days paid vacation in the first year, increasing to 20 days after 6 years of employment, plus 5 paid “personal and sick days” each year. In addition, approximately 2 weeks university-wide break over Christmas/New Year. Japanese social insurance and pension, commuting allowance, and tuition benefits for Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) programs.

Overview of position:

Play a key role in TUJ’s efforts to improve TUJ’s status as an educational institution. Develop further partnerships with Japanese universities, coordinate and work closely with project team members, with related faculty members and departments within TUJ and its main campus in the U.S., and with external venders. The wide-ranging duties span providing advice, data collection and analysis, and clerical assistance to the dean and senior management in relevant departments.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Act as a main liaison between TUJ and Japanese legislators, and MEXT, e.g., play a key role in TUJ’s efforts in attaining gakko hojin status
- Act as a liaison between TUJ and Japanese and foreign institutions for any other ad hoc inquiries from institutions
- Play a key role in organizing short programs, and faculty development workshops. Make important decisions on logistics and contents of the programs, especially for faculty development workshops
- Act as a liaison on various issues between TUJ and governmental institutions such as MEXT, the U.S. embassy, and other foreign embassies in Tokyo
- Facilitate communication within TUJ for other university relations, and short-term programs
- Data collection and analysis on Japanese and foreign institution trends in higher education/secondary education research
- Produce, check and edit Japanese translation of English documents
- Provide some clerical assistance to the dean e.g., schedule meetings, write letters
- Provide support for Dean’s Office functions such as alumni events, staff end-of-year party, and commencement

Qualifications & Experience:

- Native speaker of Japanese or the same level of Japanese skill
- Advanced level or higher in English.
- Solid writing and editing skills in Japanese and English
- At least 5 years of work experience
- At least a bachelor’s degree
- Experience in working as a researcher or in grant proposal writing in Japan is a plus
- Strong interest in education, especially international, liberal arts higher education
