Description

The Eiken Foundation of Japan is recruiting Test Raters to evaluate recorded responses from a test of spoken English.

Working conditions:
1. Initial rating sessions will be conducted July 22-28 and September 16-24 in central Tokyo; during the sessions, raters may work part time or full time between the hours of 9:30 and 20:30 on weekdays and 9:30 and 18:30 on weekends/holidays.
2. Future sessions will be held in December 2015 and at least three times annually beginning in 2016. Preference will be given to raters who perform well during the initial sessions.

Compensation:
800 yen per 10-minute test; raters will evaluate approximately 5 tests per hour.

Training and certification:
1. Short-listed candidates will be asked to complete a self-access training and certification program, to be conducted at the candidate’s home at his/her convenience. The program takes approximately 3.5 hours and is unpaid. Candidates who successfully complete the program will become certified as raters.
2. Candidates will be required to sign and return a nondisclosure agreement prior to receiving training materials.
3. Training materials will be sent to candidates in March or April.

Qualifications:
1. Native English speaker or proof of English proficiency of at least CEFR C1 (EIKEN Grade 1; IELTS 7.0).
2. Bachelor’s degree or higher; TESOL certification preferred.
3. Experience teaching English at a Japanese high school, college, or university.
4. Strong desire to contribute to English language education in Japan.
5. Age 60 or below.

Application materials:
1. Résumé/CV
2. Cover letter
3. Recent photograph
The résumé/CV should include your visa status. In the cover letter, explain why you are a suitable candidate, highlighting your professional experience.

Notes:
1. Dates/times subject to change.
2. Completion of the training and certification program does not guarantee that work will be assigned. The actual number of raters hired for each session will depend on the number of test takers. However, a significant number of test takers is expected.

Application deadline: March 20, 2015
