【About Jōsō City (茨城県常総市)】
Accessible via the Kantō Railway Jōsō Line, Jōsō City is located in the southwest corner of Ibaraki Prefecture and just over an hour from Tokyo by train. The city has a large expatriate population from Brazil. Many signs are in both Japanese and Portuguese, and the area has an unique atmosphere from your usual city in Japan. The area is great for those who love the outdoors; the Kinugawa Cycling Road is excellent for cyclists and allows you to see many sites at once. Other sites of interest in the surrounding region include Fukuroda Falls, the Oarai Coast, Suigo Itako Iris Garden and Kashima Shrine. If you're looking for a place that's not too far away from Tokyo but different enough to have a personality all its own, Jōsō City is an excellent place to live and work.
