Description

Borderlink is currently seeking Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) for elementary and/or junior high schools in Machida City. These positions and located in an easily-accessible suburban area in south-west Tokyo. It's perfect for those seeking extra work to supplement their income and gain classroom teaching experience. ALTs will be provided a yearly calendar which will help manage their other commitments.

As an ALT, you would be responsible for co-teaching with Japanese teachers, making activities and materials to facilitate English language instruction. You will also make the language "real" by interacting with students throughout the day to help them actively apply what they learn in class. The ideal candidate is flexible with their teaching style and wants to make a positive impact on the lives of the students.

Successful applicants:
-Must be native English speakers.
-Must be living in Japan on a visa permitting part-time / full-time work.
-Priority will be given to applicants holding certification such as TEFL/TESOL or who have prior teaching experience.

About Machida City
Located about 30 minutes from Shinjuku station, Machida is a major suburb of Tokyo and easy to access on the Odakyu line. Known as a popular, welcoming area for foreign residents, the city holds frequent international events and has much to enjoy on weekends. There are amusement parks such as Yomiuri-Land and the nearby Sanrio Puroland; there are also many athletic parks including the city's famous Squirrel Park. The night life in Machida is also very reasonable and a fun alternative for those who don't want to travel into central Tokyo, and the city's annual fireworks festival is a must-see spectacular.

The city is also popular among foodies with many famous cafes, ramen shops, izakayas, and souvenir shops offering a plethora of delights. Despite being a city, vegetable farming is held in high esteem and Machida's own fresh-picked "Machi☆Vege" vegetables are a symbol of the area.

Machida has a strong English program that begins in its elementary schools. Students follow a unique curriculum that encourages communication with each other and their teachers. The ALT's role is the support this, and is encouraged to maximize their time with students, interacting with them during lunch, recess, and after-school English clubs.
