New Life International School (NLIS) is looking for an elementary teacher to teach a small, multi-grade class in the intermediate grades from April 2022. NLIS teachers must be flexible, loving, and passionate teachers, able to recognize students’ needs and work with differences in the classroom, work with other teachers and parents well, be committed to professional development growth, work with curriculum development, and work with WASC accreditation requirements. Teachers must have an elementary education degree from an English-speaking country.

Teachers have their own classroom and teach the subjects language arts, math, science, social studies, art, music, and physical education. Teachers are expected to prepare written lesson plans weekly following the curriculum standards and scope and sequences of the classes, to teach in innovative ways, and to decorate their classrooms.

Teachers work most days from 8:40 to 4:00 Monday through Friday, 190 days a year. All teachers have the following breaks: a 30-minute break daily during the children's recess, a 45-minute break 4 days a week during Japanese classes, and a 20-minute break on Fridays during chapel time. There is a least one teacher's meeting every three weeks which lasts until 5:00 or longer. NLIS has long holidays, including four to five weeks in the summer, three weeks in the winter, four weeks in the spring, weekends, and Japanese national holidays. The salary starts at ￥3,108,000 a year, plus an annual bonus, a small stipend for supplies, and 60,000 yen extra for one week of summer school. The school pays half of the national health insurance and pension, and all unemployment and accidental insurances. The salary is increased after a certain number of years worked.

NLIS is a small, but growing English-based Christian international school focused on strong academics and strengthening kids’ faith. The students are fun-loving, hard-working, sincere children and a joy to teach. NLIS has a diverse, multi-national population. The student population is fifty percent Japanese, and the other fifty percent includes about ten nationalities. NLIS is a young school; it started in 2015 with only three students. In April 2022, NLIS will have around 60 students from kindergarten through grade ten.

NLIS is based in Kofu City, Yamanashi, Japan, 1 hour and 15 minutes west of Tokyo. Greater Kofu has a population of around 200,000 with beautiful nature and a quiet lifestyle. A driver's license is recommended for this rural area. The school is centrally located in Kofu and is just a 10-minute walk from Kofu station. Since NLIS first started, no teacher has quit. It's not an easy job, but the students and parents are amazing, and it's a very rewarding job.
