Since April 2005, Tokyo International School Group has been running a Life Skills English language program at Kodai High School in Nishi-ku Hiroshima. Starting with one teacher in the first year, we now have three dedicated and passionate English teachers who work together to run this unique program.
The Life Skills program is a hands-on approach to building English communicative ability. The idea is to foster a set of ideal learner traits while exploring themes that are interesting and relevant. Some of the themes we have taught in the past include orienteering, manga drawing, water rockets, solar-powered cooking, campfire safety, frisbee golf, touch rugby, cricket, and pop-culture.
IDEAL CANDIDATE: We are looking for a confident, dedicated, and passionate teacher. Candidates must have a degree in education (general, physical or outdoor education) and two years of experience (ideally working with high school students in Japan).
POSITION DETAILS: The work week is Monday to Friday with a half day of work two Saturdays per month. Paid vacation days are every Sunday, two Saturdays per month, public holidays, five days of sick leave, three weeks during summer, two weeks in winter and one week in spring. The daily work schedule is 8:15 am to 5:00 pm but it must be mentioned that, as with all teachers at Japanese schools, our teachers are expected to work the hours necessary to give the students the highest possible quality of learning experience.
Our teachers are required to use the curriculum matrix as a guide, along with lesson plans from previous years, to create lessons and materials for their classes. The team of teachers split the planning responsibilities evenly and work together to provide each other with everything needed to teach excellent classes.
LOCATION: The school is located in Nishi-ku of Hiroshima city, 10 minutes walk from JR Itsukaichi station.
START DATE: The ideal start date is the end of Mach 2019.
RECRUITMENT PROCESS: resumes will be screened to check that minimum requirements are met. Candidates will be contacted in early January to arrange face-to-face interviews for teachers who are able to come to our Tokyo HQ, or Skype web-interviews for those who can’t. Candidates will be asked to bring with them their residence cards, passports, copies of qualifications and letters of reference. Following the first round of interviews candidates will be short-listed for a second round of interviews, which will be conducted by telephone. A final decision will then be made.
We look forward to receiving your application.
