At Nagoya International School we run an after school childcare program aimed at the children of working parents. It currently contains a relatively small number of students aged from pre-school up. This position is for the coordinator of the programme. The successful candidate will be the leader of the childcare programme on a daily basis (3:30-6:00pm) and, in addition will be responsible for:
1. Planning childcare activities that will ensure children are happy, safe and appropriately engaged until collected by their parents
2. Planning the roster/schedule of staff working in the programme such that there are always two staff employed in the programme at any one time, and supervise these staff appropriately
3. Mediate and solve any problematic behaviors that occur among the children, informing the school staff and parents as appropriate, and following school safeguarding and discipline code in doing so.
4. Maintain consistent communication with parents about the program and their child
5. Be flexible such that, in the case that a parent is delayed in collecting their child (which should be by 6pm), the child is cared for until the parent arrives.
The successful candidate will:
1. Be available on a part time basis (3:00pm-6:30pm daily, from 1:45pm on Wednesdays) to work at Nagoya International School (Moriyama Ku) 190 days per year (during school term time). Children will usually be in the programme between 3:30pm-6:00pm (or from 2pm on Wednesdays)
2. Have excellent English skills (for supervising children in the childcare program) and the ability to converse confidently in Japanese with parents, including reading/writing by email and conversing face to face/on the phone.
3. Have prior experience in childcare/early childhood/elementary education and the ability to plan and deliver an enriching childcare program
4. Have an excellent understanding of safety, safeguarding and child protection
5. Have all the legal paperwork necessary to live and work in Nagoya.
6. Be available to start in August 2022
Compensation will be a pro-rated part time salary based on hours worked.
