On the job training for International Preschool Position

Necessary:
1. Must reside in Japan or able to start by July 18th, 2022.
2. Must have near native level English or better. We hire non-native but the level of English must be near native level.
3. Be capable/willing to have a Zoom interview.
4. Be capable/willing to come and do a full-day trial lesson and observation. Only those with international preschool experience AND recommendation from current/previous employer(s) may skip this step.

Work Place:
Ichinomiya City--nearest station is Owari-Ichinomiya, Meitetsu and JR train lines.

Description:
This is a full-time on-the-job training position that will prepare you to be a homeroom teacher from April of 2023. Tuesday-Friday, you will help and assist in the 2-3-year-old, 3-4-year-old, 4-5-year-old, and 5-6-year-old classes, as needed. You will teach afternoon classes and Saturday classes. From April 2023, your schedule could be Monday-Friday.

Tuesday-Friday:
You will assist in each preschool class and learn the methods, curriculum, principles, and procedures of Head Start. Training will be done in the classroom with experienced homeroom teachers. From 15:00-18:00 you will teach speaking, reading, writing, and testing classes. Students are between 2-12-years-old.

Saturday:
There are up to 12 students in the class. You will teach the same class with the same students each week. The students are divided based on age and/or ability. The youngest students are 2-years-old and the oldest are 10-years-old.

About the day, Saturday:
9:00-10:00 Students will arrive and you assist them in putting things away and interact with the students as needed. Some will be doing self-study assessments with you.
10:00-12:00 Lesson time. Students have textbooks that they work through each week. Lessons will be reading, writing, listening, and speaking. A variety of materials will be used dependent on the level of the students. Lessons also include cooking, science, or crafts as part of the day and it will rotate on a monthly basis.
12:00-12:30 Lunch time. You will eat with the students and a lunch will be provided for you if you would like.
12:30-13:00 Recess time. Recess is outside when weather permits. When inside, students decide what activity to take part in. Activities include, reading books, playing boardgames, watching English DVDs, or coloring and drawing.
13:00-15:00 Lesson time. Continuation of the curriculum.
15:00-18:00 In this time you will have an hour break. There could be private lessons.


As a homeroom teacher (April 2023 and on), you will have the same preschool students from Monday to Friday. You have the opportunity to bond and connect with the students on a personal level. You will guide and support the students as they grow from no English experience to understanding and producing English.

About the day, Monday-Friday:
9:00-10:00 Students will arrive and you assist them in putting things away and interact with the students.
10:00-11:30 Lesson time. Students have a Weekly Book that is broken up into daily sections that are to be completed.
11:30-12:00 Lunch time. You will eat with the students and a lunch will be provided for you if you would like.
12:00-12:30 Recess time. Recess is outside when weather permitting.
12:30-14:30 Lesson time. Continuation of the curriculum.
14:30-15:00 Students will be picked-up during this time or go to the “snack room” and have a snack while waiting to ride the bus or be picked-up.
15:00-18:00 In this time you will have an hour break. For the other two hours you will either have preparation time or a class.

All classes at Head Start use our original materials. We invest heavily on original curriculum to meet the needs of our students. Your ideas, knowledge, and feedback are necessary to continue the refinement and growth of our materials. All staff receive ongoing training through video review and discussion.

This position provides the opportunity for growth within the company. Staff have taken on leadership roles including, head teacher, vice-principal, principal and even owner. We have multiple staff that have started their own Head Start location. Even staff that formerly taught at Head Start continue to work for Head Start as curriculum designers and more.

11. You are of weak constitution or have poor personal hygiene.

Remuneration:
Employees will join Shakai Hoken. Under Shakai Hoken the company will pay ½ of the health insurance cost and pension cost. You will have 10 days of paid leave. You will have unemployment and disability insurance. Children of full-time staff may join the school and come at no tuition cost. Pay increases throughout the year are possible as ability and experience increases. We will assist with setting up housing if needed. Visa sponsorship is available. Starting salary will not be less than 270,000. Salary will be adjusted as ability dictates.
