Manufacturing Engineer Manager

Location: Akashi, Japan
Compensation: 9 to 10 million JPY

Summary of duties
The supplier is one of the long-term, strategic, risk and revenue sharing partners on the Trent 1000, XWB and 7000 programmes, with design, manufacture and assembly responsibility for the IPC Module.

This supplier delivers approximately 500 part numbers (5 of which are modules, each containing hundreds of engineering defined parts). Their scope of supply covers most production and PI programmes, and 5 of 6 SCUs
Production: Trent XWB-84, Trent 1000-PackC, Trent 700, Trent 800, Trent 500, RB211-524 and RB211-535
PI: Trent XWB-97, Trent 1000-TEN, Trent 7000
SCUs: Compressors, S&T, Installations, Rotatives, Turbines, plus civil operations assembly

Responsibilities include:
Lead a strategic supplier development programme of work in Manufacturing Engineering, including responsibility for enabling, coaching and delivering the endorsement of ME delegations into the Supplier organization.

Support and enable supplier operational output (FAIRs, FPAs, technical problem resolution, new approvals, source changes, improvements activity) and rate readiness activity (IPPR, PPAP, industrialization reviews and customer reviews)

Ensure delivery of all Manufacturing Engineering activity of the team and of Supplier is line with established processes and standards, and deploy the Manufacturing Engineering technical accountabilities pertaining to the activity of the team, subject to appropriate delegation.

Lead, manage and develop the team of Manufacturing Engineers Purchase in a Partnership and Purchasing Supplier Management Team at Supplier, plus coaching and supporting the equivalent professionals in the Supplier organization.

Lead technical problem resolution and technical improvement activities as appropriate at the supplier. Coach the community in the use of RRPS and DMAIC tools.

Working with the Manufacturing Engineering Commodity Leaders and Manufacturing Process Owners, drive manufacturing processes towards identified consistent best practice.

Technical Authority for the facility or supply chain, accountable for the Method of Manufacture and compliance to Design Intent.

Ensure manufacturing processes and/or methods of manufacture are capable of meeting and continuing to meet requirements for quality, cost, delivery rate and lead time

Control manufacturing process change. Subject to appropriate delegation, Chair the change authority.

Manage Manufacturing Engineering load/capacity planning and budgets


Qualifications
A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (manufacturing/production/Industrial engineering preferred), or equivalent knowledge is required and professional accreditation is an advantage (e.g. CEng).

The successful candidate will have a manufacturing engineering background, experience of working within the supply chain, experience of people management, global experience and trusted interpersonal skills.

Candidate will be able to demonstrate

Good understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to the component manufacture and module assembly activities at Supplier

Strong theoretical and applied knowledge of ME processes defined in both SABRe and the RRMS

Self-motivation and the ability to self-start

Proven ability to deliver change through collaborative leadership

Excellent communication skills and the ability to discuss technical and business issues with all levels of business, both within Company and outside.

Working experience as MEM/METL (preferred) or MEP. FAIR and LCA delegations desired

Native Japanese language and excellent English skills are preferred

Global outlook and exposure to different challenges, cultures and ways of working.

Understands and operates Supplier Relationship Management
