Description

English Teaching Position in Fuji City, Japan starting as soon as possible.

Hario English School has a vacancy for an English conversation teacher. The position had been filled but the candidate dropped out due to an unforeseeable personal matter, so we are looking for someone who can start as soon as possible.

We are a private English conversation school based in Fuji City, a small, coastal city at the foot of Mt. Fuji in Shizuoka prefecture and a couple of hours from Tokyo. Our students are mainly children, from pre-kindergarten to high school, and we also teach adult and company classes. We use the PLS System in our elementary school classes. Our school has a number of events during the year, including a speech contest, an English camp, a Christmas party and Halloween celebrations. On-the-job training, including how to teach the PLS System, is provided with lots of support, especially in the first few months.

We are a small, growing school built on word-of-mouth and strong relationships with students and their parents. The successful candidate will need to be able to foster and maintain good relationships with the students, their parents and staff. Our preferred candidate would be someone who is looking to stay in Japan long term and can commit to at least two years. Japanese ability and ties to the area are a considerable plus. Please only apply if you are serious about moving to Fuji City and can start in January.

Requirements:

- A native English speaker
- A university degree
- Substantial experience teaching English as a foreign language or a teaching qualification (e.g. CELTA, Trinity TESOL)
- Must like working with children
- A positive attitude, professionalism, good organization and the ability to work in a team.
- Can move to Fuji City, Japan in January and start as soon as possible.

Preferred:

- A driver's license
- Experience with teaching children
- Extra-curricular talents (e.g. music, art, camp leader)
- Japanese ability
- Knowledge of or experience with the PLS System
- Experience living abroad, preferably in Japan.

Job Description:

- Working Monday to Friday, approximately 12:30pm - 9:30pm (including a one hour lunch break).
- Teaching 30-50 minute classes for students from age 2 up to adults.
- A maximum of 25 hours teaching time per week.
- Participating in weekly teacher’s meetings.
- Helping with school events (e.g. speech contest, English camp, Christmas party).
- Occasional weekend work for training courses and school events (approximately 5 times in a year)

Wages and Benefits

- A one year, renewable contract.
- Salary 255,000 yen/month for the first three months, rising to 260,000 yen afterwards. Any overtime will be paid.
- Enrollment in the Japanese social security system (社会保険, shakaihoken) which covers health insurance and pension contributions.
- Full working visa sponsorship will be provided.
- An annual bonus paid from the completion of the first year.
- Approximately 5 weeks holiday throughout the year, including at Christmas/New Year, Golden Week, summer and autumn, according to the school's teaching calendar.
- Help finding accommodation as necessary.
