Description

This position is for a native English speaker who will work with nursery school, kindergarten, and elementary school age children. We are looking for someone who is independent, self-motivated, has a positive attitude, and loves to be around young children. Daily work consists of classroom sessions, small group lessons, and childcare. The school day is conducted in Japanese, but the teacher will communicate with the students and teach using English only.

This position is open only for individuals whose native language is English. Applicants must also possess a bachelor’s degree. If these requirements are met, Daigokyo will sponsor or renew a work visa.

The teacher is responsible for planning age and skill appropriate English lessons, designing a yearlong school curriculum, and creating teaching materials. Job duties also include assisting with general childcare and playing enthusiastically with the kids.

The ideal candidate has experience teaching, working with children, or a degree in early childhood education. Teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL/TESOL) certification is also desirable. Some level of Japanese language proficiency is beneficial. Candidates currently living in Japan and who are authorized to work are preferred, but applications from overseas will also be accepted.

The workplaces are Mignon Kinugasa, Kinugasa Beans, Ukyo Beans (all in Kyoto city), and Polaris (in Osaka city), which are centers for early childhood education and care operated by Daigokyo. Most workdays are in Kyoto, with 1 or 2 days a week in Osaka. Kyoto is rich in Japanese culture, a place where nature and traditions reside in harmony. It’s home to many historic temples and shrines listed as world heritage sites. Osaka is a vibrant and ultra-modern city, famous for its gourmet food, entertainment, and shopping.

Regular workdays are Monday-Friday, with no evening shifts. Teachers work 6 hours each day, for a total of 30 hours per week. In principal, weekends and national holidays are non-work days, and there is a year-end and New Year break period.

Benefits include 10 days of paid vacation, reimbursement of commuting costs, and company contributions to health insurance, employment insurance, worker's accident compensation insurance, and employee pension plan enrollment. We also offer a progressive pay raise system.

The new teacher may begin work at their soonest available date, or June 1st, 2023 at the latest. This is a one-year contract position, lasting until March 31st, 2024. Contract renewal for multiple years is possible. We look forward to learning more about you, so please submit a cover letter when applying for this position.
