The Montessori School of Tokyo is currently seeking a Japanese teacher for its Middle School program. This position requires working with students from 12 to 15 years old.
The successful candidate will be an English speaking, native Japanese speaker with connections to the community around central Tokyo.
The role includes, but is not limited to teaching Japanese to Middle School students. This includes both novice Japanese learners as well as supporting our native Japanese students.
In addition, we seek someone who can connect our students to the community around them. Who will be able to make phone calls, find ways to tie the curriculum to the community (for example, if the students are developing their woodworking skills we might want to tour a local woodworking factory or visit a carpenter's workshop), and integrate our students into life in Japan (customs, culture, etc.) . Providing student support while researching is also needed. This position requires roughly 32 hours a week.
The exact timing of the position to be arranged with the successful candidate but will be between 9 am and 4:20 pm. Interested applicants should submit a resume and cover letter detailing their qualifications for this position. Experience working with this age level required.
At least two years of teaching preferred. Please include indicators of English writing and reading fluency.
