Description

We are a small private English school that is popular for kids lessons, though we have a variety of adult lessons as well. We are looking for an experienced, educated, fun, and friendly conversational English teacher available to work on weekday afternoons. We currently need a teacher who is capable leading kids lessons on these days. Some experience working with children is requested. 6 separate class levels make up our current student body, so flexibility in teaching beginners to near-native speakers is important.

Our curriculum is comprehensive but the primary focus is on practical spoken English. We use a unique system of games and activities that encourage kids to become not just better with the English language, but more interested and enthusiastic about learning the language. Our teachers use these materials to have fun with the kids (get on their level so kids feel relaxed and see teachers as equals) while also leading the children to build conversations around these activities. Board game and card game geeks who are creative are likely to enjoy working in our unique teaching method. Storytelling is required for some activities, and so applicants with RPG or dramatic acting experience are desired (though not a prerequisite). Teachers cannot shy away from using a funny voice, creatively telling a story, or even changing a games rules to improve a creative learning experience.

The hours are 3-4 hours per day (at least 3 times a week). The location is near Aobadai station on the Denentoshi line.

Compensation will be at a minimum rate of 2,300 yen per hour. Teachers can currently receive up to 3,100 yen per hour based on their experience and primarily on their performance. The more our school grows the more we can compensate our employees, so excellent contributors can expect an excellent salary or even the possibility of a bonus on the contract's completion.

Responsibilities and Duties:
The teacher will be responsible for preparing lessons based on our curriculum goals and materials. The teacher must become familiar with these materials so that they are capable with them. We make use of a lot of creative materials including a vast number of games and activities.
The number of students in the class varies but is often 3-6 students. A large number of students are of higher levels, and natural English conversation is always a goal during class time. The teacher may not use Japanese during class time.
The teacher is also asked to end classes by explaining the day's activities in basic English or Japanese to students' parents at the end of the lesson. Friendly interaction with parents is a must.
Teachers will evaluate student's performance and record activities used. All teachers are welcome to contribute suggestions to our teaching methodology and curriculum. We want active, passionate teachers who are serious about education.
Other duties include helping out with cleaning up, changing monthly curriculum on the last day of each month, preparing new materials, decorating for holiday events, and most importantly always taking the initiative to be productive. Each month the materials and curriculum will change and the teacher must be ready to use those new materials.

Requirements for this position are as follows:
Associate's Degree (2 year) or Higher Level of Education
Command of the English Language
Ability to Understand Various Types of Games Used in the Lessons
Basic Knowledge of Textbook English Grammar
Previous Experience Working with Children

We hope to interview candidates who have:
-A love of teaching
-A love of board games / card games / puzzles
-An enthusiastic attitude towards teaching children and sharing their own culture with them
-Admirable work ethic with the independence required to take the initiative and work productively
-A full one year commitment to this position
