Description

SIUK Tokyo is now looking to hire part-time IELTS teachers to help out at our busy school in Meguro, Tokyo.

Working Hours
SIUK Tokyo is currently open from 10:00-21:00 Tues-Fri, and 10:00-19:00 Sat-Sun. We are particularly looking for people to help out on weekends and evenings. An early shift would run from 10:00-19:00 including a one hour lunch break. A late shift would be from 12:00-21:00, also including a one hour break. Part time staff hours will be based upon your availability, but preference will be given to candidates able to work weekends and evenings.

About Our Company
SIUK (Study International UK) is an agency that aims to assist students in the process of applying for university courses within the United Kingdom. Our free service comprises every aspect of the application process, including proofreading and editing application documents.

An important part of any university application for non-native English speaking candidates is meeting the English language requirement. In the UK this is achieved through the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). SIUK is able to help candidates meet their IELTS requirement through our IELTS Training Centre (ITC). We use a variety of textbooks to help our students improve their IELTS test score. Some students need to improve a single score, and many need to improve their overall score. Most of our students are in their twenties and thirties, although we are straight to see an increase in the number of students of high-school age who are applying to Japanese universities. The vast majority of students are highly motivated.

Our office is friendly and cheerful, but space is limited. We are looking for sociable people who are able to work in a busy environment where noise may sometimes be concern. The ideal candidate will be able to "hit the ground running". This means that candidates should have experience with IELTS test preparation including helping students improve their Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking scores. We use a variety of textbooks, including the Complete series (Cambridge), and the (Collins) Improve your W/S/L/R Skills textbooks focusing upon individual skills. Most of our students are around 5.0 overall, but we do get students who are higher and lower than this, and in the case of low-level students it may be necessary to teach General English to get the student up to a level where they are able to start an IELTS textbook.

Our schedule is based upon the UK academic year (starting in September). As a result we tend to see a drop-off in student numbers around that time. As a result we can only offer short-term contracts at this point. However, we are currently expanding, and may be able to offer extensions from autumn 2019. If this is not possible, we will be able to offer work on a part-time basis during the winter months. As a result of this, this work may not be ideal for people who are looking for visa sponsorship.
