Description

Sunnyside International Kindergarten is the preschool/kindergarten division of J Institute located in Jiyugaoka. We offer preschool and kindergarten classes to children aged one year ten months to six years old.

Sunnyside's philosophy is to provide high-quality early education in English to both native and non-native students.

We advocate literacy and strive to foster a love of reading from an early age through our comprehensive literacy program. We are also inspired by several globally-respected approaches to early education, including the Reggio Emilia approach and the Montessori Method. Our annual events are Sports Day, Christmas Show, and Graduation. We have field trips and different monthly activities that enrich the learning experiences of students.

Position:
We are currently looking for a full-time classroom teacher. The students are around three to five years old. The ideal start date is the end of March (from March 27th).

We are recruiting for a lead teacher but an assistant teaching position may be offered too depending on previous job experience.

Responsibilities:
Classroom Teacher
Creating lesson plans and supplemental content
Supporting seasonal school sessions
Managing a classroom; including a budget, decorations, maintenance, and materials
Writing daily reports for parents about students
Caring for and interacting with young children (ages 2-6)
Assisting other staff as required
Supporting the school when needed
Substituting and tutoring when needed

Requirements:
English Level: Native Speaker
Preschool Experience: 3 years or more
Attitude: Friendly, positive, energetic, and patient

Special Considerations for:
-College degree in education or related fields
-Valid overseas teaching license or certification in early education or childcare
-Strong knowledge and teaching capabilities of phonics and creative writing for children
-Knowledge of the Reggio Emilia approach or the Montessori Method
-Conversational Japanese
-Those who have skills that can be taught in our after-school programs (Music, Dance, etc.)
-A specific cover letter for Sunnyside including your teaching philosophy

Working Conditions:
Working hours (full-time): Monday through Friday 8 working hours and a 60-minute break, between 8:00 - 18:00.
Salary: Negotiable (based on experience and qualifications)
- Weekends: off except for a couple over the year for events
- 10 paid leave days, each subsequent year earning additional days (after 6 months of employment)
- A few Saturday events throughout the year
-Additional school holidays include: 1 week off on Golden Week, 1 week in Summer, and 1 week in Winter

Probation:
All employees must complete an initial three-month probationary period, during which time necessary job training will be provided. After successful completion of the probationary period, successful candidates will be offered a full-time contract with compensation between the rate of 260,000-330,000 yen per month (negotiable based on qualifications and previous job experience).
