Kindai University is one of the largest universities in Japan. Its Faculty of Medicine is highly research-oriented and is well-known for cancer research and molecular therapies. Kindai University Faculty of Medicine is currently seeking for a motivated candidate to fill the position of tenure-track lecturer (full-time) or associate professor in charge of medical English.
This tenure-track lecturer (full-time) or associate professor teaches medical English to 2nd, 3rd and 4th year medical students (1 class a week for each grade, full year). He or she is also responsible to help teaching first year medical students in association with another lecturer who is in charge of English communication classes. Giving examinations and grading are also required. Tenure-track lecturers and associate professors are also expected to publish scientific papers and apply for research grants.
Kindai University Faculty of Medicine is located in Osaka-Sayama, a city of quiet residential area in the Southern suburb of Osaka.
The appointment will be either tenure-track lecturer (full-time) or associate professor depending on the person's past experience, current position and research/teaching achievements. After evaluation, tenure-track lecturer can be promoted to tenured lecturer or associate professor.
All employees at Kindai University work 6 days a week (3 hours for Saturdays). In addition to monthly salary, coverage for excess expenses due to living in Osaka area is provided and family and housing expenses and commutation expenses are covered by the University. Bonuses are given twice a year. In total, yearly stipend for a first-year tenure-track lecturer would be around 4,700,000 to 5,000,000 yen depending on his/her current position and past experience. Stipend for associate professor is higher.
All employees at Kindai University join the Promotion and Mutual Aid Corporation for Private Schools of Japan that fully covers medical insurance and pension. All employees are eligible to get annual paid and flexible holidays. The entire campus of the Faculty of Medicine is smoke-free. When appointed, a personal office will be provided.
We accept applications until the 30th of June. After examination of applicants' CVs and bibliography, up to 3 final candidates are invited to give simulated class lectures at the election committee. The employment will start on the 1st of September.
Applicant must be either a native English speaker or at least as fluent in English as a native speaker, and must have abilities to understand medical terms when appointed. Over a half of our medical students are doctors' sons and daughters, and they have been familiar with medical terminology since their primary school days. Thus, if your knowledge on medical terminology is inadequate, they may not be willing to follow your classes.
Applicant must also have a doctor's degree (M.D. or Ph.D.). Research and/or teaching experiences in medical or biological sciences, or in public health are preferred. Experiences in related areas of human geography, ecology, statistics, epidemiology are also considered.
Applicant must be able to read and write Japanese with some help as business office notices and forms to be filled out are in Japanese.

After evaluating applicants' CVs and bibliography, we will select up to 3 final candidates who are invited to see us and give a simulated classroom lecture in early July. After hearing test lectures, the election committee will select one candidate with whom we will proceed for the employment starting on the 1st of September.
Result notification as to whether you are invited to give a test lecture or not will be given as an e-mail message. CVs and bibliographies are not returned unless you specifically request us, but all applicants' CVs and bibliographies are totally erased after the above election.
