Description

Pacific Language School (PLS) has specialized in teaching English to Japanese children for 50 years, and our constantly-evolving program uses predominantly original materials, both for in-class use and homework. We are not part of a chain organization, but our system has been adopted by over 50 independently-owned sister schools in Japan who look to us for leadership, seminar training and continuous, cooperative curriculum development.

PLS has over 400 students ranging from infants to seniors, with the majority in kindergarten or elementary school. Classes are typically small groups of 4 to 8 students, while one-on-one lessons are also offered depending on students’ needs. There are also opportunities to teach at private kindergartens and elementary schools that we provide teachers for.

This position is a five-day position, Tuesday to Saturday. The weekly working hours, including prep and record-keeping, are 35 hours, but actual teaching hours are typically 20 to 25, mostly afternoons and evenings.

Applicants interested in a part-time position (minimum three days per week) may also be considered.

There are paid one-week vacations for spring break and Golden Week, and two weeks each for summer and winter holidays. A transportation allowance is offered on top of regular salary.

There is a three-month probationary period on a slightly reduced salary.

Ongoing training is provided through seminars, workshops, and senior peer assistance. There are opportunities for advancement in teacher training, as well as material development.

Applicants who pass screening will be contacted by email to set up an initial interview on Zoom. After meeting online, applicants may be invited to a second interview and class observation at our school in Suginami, Tokyo. The successful applicant will start training as soon as possible.
