Tokyo Academics is the passion project of a constellation of teachers, researchers, and academics from around the world. Since 2012, we’ve evolved from a few university friends to a growing number of part-time and full-time individuals located in Tokyo, as well as working remotely. We are an organization of experts deeply passionate about helping students meet their potential and capture the opportunities of the future.

We are looking for a driven and passionate individual to lead our Tech Research Division. The Tech Research Division Manager is responsible for leading a team of tech mentors who support upcoming young students interested in developing their skills and exposure to the ever-evolving technology-driven world around us. The Manager leads our instructors who teach hands-on coding, robotics, and digital creatives classes and private lessons to students aged 8 to 12 years old. In the business sense, the Research Division Manager works closely with external partners and programs to provide truly one-of-a-kind tech education opportunities for the Tokyo Academics community and beyond.

What you will work on:

Team Management:
-Lead team of tech instructors across a variety of tech disciplines, including but not limited to coding, programming, robotics, music production, video editing, etc.
-Lead team of virtual assistants, curriculum developers, and other remote support staff
-Manage performance of existing instructors and operations staff
-Work closely with Recruiting team to expand the Tech team

Marketing and Sales:
-Meet with new and existing clients to sell Tech division services, as well as provide customer service
-Work closely with Marketing team to promote tech programs and projects

Financial:
-Track income, expenses, and KPIs
-Work closely with Financial team to set short- and long-term strategies for division growth and development

Asset Planning and Management:
-Manage tech equipment inventory and tech working spaces
-Organize, coordinate, and facilitate off-site tech programs and courses

Community Engagement:
-Direct and strategically plan community outreach programs to increase community awareness and participation
-Meet with external partners, such as international schools and for-profit organizations


Our ideal candidate:

To conduct this job successfully, the Tech Research Division Manager should be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Knowledge:
-Educational Background:
Bachelor degree in Business Administration or Equivalent (MBA is a plus)

-Professional Background:
At least 1 year of tech industry experience
or
At least 1 year of education industry experience
At least 1 year of experience in management

Specific Knowledge:
-Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google suite
-Strong command of English
-Tech Industry Experience in at least one of the following disciplines: coding/programming, robotics, animation, video editing, music production
-How to build a strong tech portfolio
-Understand how extracurricular tech programs can complement and strengthen the academic experience of students

Work hours:
