Description

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to train in late October
• Native English speaker with exceptional writing, college counseling, and teaching skills
• University degree (preferably from a high-ranking school)
• Current Japanese working permit and Japanese residency
• A minimum of two years full-time English teaching experience
• Experience teaching standardized tests, especially SAT, TOEFL, GTEC, etc.
• Willingness to teach students aged 12-19
• Exceptional classroom-management and time-management skills
• Basic proficiency in Windows/Mac, MS Office and/or Google Docs
• Flexibility in mindset and willingness to learn and improve
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Basic proficiency in Japanese
• General awesomeness!

DESCRIPTION:

Position:
• Fast-growing online academy seeks full-time instructor/counselor to deliver AWESOME online and traditional classroom lessons to students of academic English (SAT, TOEFL, IELTS, GTEC), students who are aiming to study abroad, and (junior high school) students who want to get ahead of their peers in English.

Key Responsibilities:
• Teaching academic English and test-prep skills to small groups via web conference (typically 4-6 students) and/or face-to-face (typically 5-10 students) following the guidelines of a well-established curriculum and teaching method
• Developing academic English skills-building training materials (SAT & TOEFL test preparation, essay writing, speaking fluency, etc)
• Counseling students on overseas college applications (personal essay, extracurricular activities, etc)
• Preparing junior high school students to tackle academic English.

Strongly Preferred Skills:
• Experience with and Willingness to teach highly motivated teenagers who have different levels of English proficiency
• Master's degree in TESOL/TEFL or other education field
• Graphic design or video editing experience
• Firm knowledge of SAT structure, scoring, and strategies
• Basic proficiency in Japanese
• Proficiency in MS Excel / Google Sheets
• Experience teaching with Skype or other teleconference software
• Excellent interpersonal skills

Nice To Have!
• Joyful experiences teaching JHS, high school, and university students
• Experience writing/developing materials for academic English and test prep training (SAT, TOEFL, IELTS, etc)
• Experience teaching online with Adobe Connect, Blackboard, BigBlueButton, or similar
• Experience working in a Japanese-style office and/or a large Japanese corporation
• JLPT2 Japanese fluency

Location:
• a five-minute walk from Jimbocho or Ochanomizu station

Remuneration:
• We will base salary on your unique talents, skills, and experience according to our salary guidelines
• Company contributions to pension, health, labor, and other state mandated insurances/taxes
• Bi-yearly travel expenses up to 120,000 yen for each 6-month period

Work Schedule: (will be decided based on your availability)
• Five days a week (Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday with occasional weekend business trips to other places in Japan), 2:00-10:15pm (may vary slightly)
