Requirements

  • English: Native level
  • Must currently reside in Japan
  • Must have at least 2 years teaching experience.
  • Must have at least a bachelor's degree.
  • Must have appropriate visa to work in Japan.
  • Must be a native speaker of English, not someone speaks English as a second language.

Description

1) Part-time, native-speaking English teacher to teach English as a foreign language to our junior and senior high school students. The schedule will probably include junior high second and third grade speaking classes, and possibly senior high second grade writing skills classes. Class numbers are not yet fixed, but we anticipate a two or three day schedule. We are looking for a qualified and/or experienced teacher with a proper working visa. The initial contract will last until the end of the academic year March 2020. No Japanese speaking ability is necessary, but we are looking for an energetic teacher who enjoys teaching and helping students improve their English communication skills.

2) Part-time English Literature teacher needed for Hiroo Gakuen Junior and Senior High School International Course. All students are native level English speakers so we require native English-speaking teachers to teach in English. We are looking for a specialist in English literature rather than an English language teacher. Students are not learners of English. No Japanese speaking ability is necessary. Previous experience with this age and a relevant first degree are valued over formal teaching experience and qualifications. The teacher would be responsible for preparing and teaching classes, setting and grading homework and setting and grading tests. Formal tests are given five times a year and teachers would be expected to be available to proctor tests.
The curriculum and content are all fixed and all materials and texts are provided. We are looking for a bright, energetic person who enjoys teaching and is confident that they can provide motivating, challenging lessons to our students.

For both positions the salary is 3,500 yen per hour, times number of contracted hours, times fifty-two weeks, divided by twelve. An example seven-hour weekly schedule would be paid as follows: 3500 x 7 x 52 ÷ 12 = 106,166 yen. It is important to note that even though this is a part-time position, the amount paid remains constant throughout the year so is not affected by summer or winter vacations or by whether classes are scheduled or not.Transportation costs are also covered and all salaries are paid on the twentieth of the month.

Please send a cover letter explaining briefly which job you are interested in and why. Successful candidates would then be asked to answer a few questions in writing about their views on teaching and then interviewed via Skype. Please do not contact the school directly.
